Default Help identifying a card

Does anyone know what set this Robin Yount card is from? Top row, fifth from the right. Not sure why the pic was taken with a potato, but I have every other card in this lot, so I don't want to buy the whole thing for one card unless it's really worth it.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure but it looks like it can be narrowed down to Robin's stint with the Brewers. HTH

Really hard to see…

If I’m guessing, I’m guessing an unlicensed odd ball.

It looks like it has Brewers on his chest so can't be unlicensed. Maybe a custom card. It would help if we could read what it says. 2023 Mears? But most likely not worth the cardboard it's printed on

It has Milwaukee on his chest. Could definitely be an unlicensed oddball.

That's what I thought, but I couldn't find anything with that description. I found another lot from the same seller with three of them. Apparently he takes all his pictures with the same potato.

I PC Yount, so I'm not concerned with resale value. Whatever it is, I know it's something I don't have. If it's custom I'm not interested, just want to know.

I would ask the seller two things:
1) A better picture of the card in question
2) If it's something you are interested in, ask them if they will sell you one of the copies

Sure can, "Broders" is a general term in the hobby for unlicensed cards that use the MLB logos. They typically hold little to no value. Unlicensed garbage.

In this case, maybe a regional issue or box bottom maybe?

I was wondering that myself. I have around 800 Yount cards in my PC. This is the first one I haven't been able to find on TCDB. At this point, I'm convinced it's a custom. Seem weird though that the guy selling them has at least four of them.

Looks like maybe a custom card of some kind maybe made by or in conjunction with MEARS https://www.mearsonlineauctions.com/viewblog.aspx.

They are in Milwaukee and I’m thinking if you contacted them maybe they would know.

I’m not sure what that card is, but it reminded me of the Milwaukee Brewer team sets from the Milwaukee Police Department. I wish I still had mine.

I like it as a box bottom from some issue. Non-white borders are rare for this period, but box bottoms often included colored borders

It looks like it says “2023 Mears” on the front…

That’s what I was referring to in my post above. MEARS will know what it is if OP contacts them.

I have the Yount's from every year from the police sets. Got them pretty cheap from eBay and Sportlots.

I said to hell with it and bought the lot. Curiosity killed the cat. Anyway, it's supposed to be here tomorrow. I'll scan and post pics when it gets in.

Is there a reason that you bought the set instead of asking the seller? Not that I'm complaining—this thread has me vicariously invested and I want to see the outcome.

As a player collector myself, I know when I see something I've never seen before (and may never see again), I don't want to risk someone else hitting the BIN before I get an answer. Obviously, posting here was the same time sink, so I don't know. But ultimately, even if identified, it won't matter, because if it's something I don't have, I'll want it anyway.

Weirdest part to me is that there are still unlicensed oddballs being made by random companies in the year 2023 (let alone of retired players)

I thought that was an 80s-90s phenomena

This is pretty much it, but I did ask the seller and got no response. It did say the seller was on vacation on eBay, but as soon as I sent an offer, they countered right away. At the end of the day, it's $18 to see what exactly it is, and then get a pile of other cards I already have. There's three in the lot, so if it's anything interesting, I'm sure I can flip the other two. I've been finding a lot of oddballs in lots lately that I can't find for sale anywhere else on their own even when I can identify them, so at some point I'm going to be looking to unload a massive Yount lot myself.
