Blowout Message Boards is a wonderfully huge Cruise Ship.

The Hobby is the Ocean.

The thought that everyone has to go on a cruise is silly.

Your average collector probably goes to a show about once a month.
they'll spend 50 to 200 dollars, picking up what they enjoy collecting.
they'll then go home and put away their pickups.
they will not talk about it on the internet or post images.

there are a lot of average collectors out there.

The Hobby is fine.

Nailed it! This is exactly what I do with show, LCS, and eBay pickups. I'm not looking to flip nor am I looking for validation. I used to share in the monthly pickup threads here, maybe even started one or two of them back in the day. But not any more.

Can the Hobby be Space?

And going to the Space Station on Space-x is like going to Blowout forums. Some of these takes are out of this world!

While most people can enjoy space and not take a rocket to the space station?

granted, enjoying the ocean is probably easier then enjoying space. (well you could just use a telescope) But that might be just like watching a you tube podcast...

People who live in areas with tons of shows (Upper Midwest/Great Lakes/New England/Atlantic Seaboard) don't realize that there are few if any decent shows west of the Mississippi.

I saw the average collector at Target this morning. I asked if they were going to the show next weekend. They said they did not know about, so you might be right.

But they were also looking for Pokemon, so maybe they are the "above" average collector?

And if the “average collector” isnt on the internet talking cards…how would they even know about a card show?

The average collector probably does not go to a show a year. The show scene is a very small circle of collectors, and it usually just repeats itself. The bulk of the people are the same dealers and the same collectors.

But that is how any "show scene" is. I would venture a guess and say that comic book shows and reptile shows and gun shows are the same way. Shows just aren't something that most people do.

The card market has always been this way. Its just done at a much larger scale and value now. Emotions control our market and purchases continue to happen while people are emotionally tied up in whatever card. That can be through dollar signs they hope to make, their team being hyped, or the hype of a prospect. Eventually the emotions of that card or player fade away and so does the card. People buying a hot rookie right now isn't much difference than people buying Todd Van Poppel or Ken Griffey Jr 25 years ago. If the player succeeds, there will always be demand. If they don't someone ends up with the hot potato. So yes, you are correct, its a game of hot potato. But its always been like that.

Majority of flip Bois have a PC. I chat people up at shows and very few tell me they are 100% flip with no PC.

But it’s not a PC when everything is available ….. at a price.

They use that excuse as a bargaining chip.

PC means it’ll cost you even more!

Flipper bois are so easy to figure out, especially the box flipper bois.

Sure it is.
My home is available at 3x its value. And I like my home a hell of a lot more than some cards.

Any card, even PC grails, are available at a stupid price.

I went to my local guitar shop, and the owner was saying it's the all time worst period for people buying. Everybody is trying to sell. Is this a hobby thing in general, or did too many people buy guitars during Covid?

But then you have MTG and Pokemon cards going absolutely bonkers.

Are sports cards in the middle?

This is not true, and I doubt I am the only one that feels this way.
