I have experienced subs that nearly all cards come back with new nicks/dings from what looks like scanner damage, and straight up damage from what looks like the case was pressed together with part of the card hanging out the side. No mention from them after supposedly “2 graders” looking at things. I’ve experienced subs where all cards come back super clean but the grades are 2-3 grades lower across the board—so not just a bad process—but many bad graders. Happens mainly with modern—80’s, 90’s & 2000’s cards.

Subbing cards to PSA used to be my favorite part of the hobby and at times, one of the more enjoyable parts of life (yes I’m that lame!!). I looked forward to it and found ways to make it happen more often. What has happened to you in your post was the norm for my 2024 PSA grading experience. Something major has changed and 1 by 1, people will come to the same position as you have only after it happens to them and think—wait a minute…this is total crap. Some will keep subbing regardless because it’s fun—others will wisely back off until or unless it’s publicly admitted/published and fixed by PSA.
Is there a way to have PSA compensate you for this? Like if we mark the value upon submission of each card has $500 and this happens, they should be paying the consumer $500 for each damaged card correct?

I don’t know really. I sub pretty low value stuff so my declared value is lower than the grading cost sometimes. I’ve been contacted 1 time regarding damage and they refunded my grading fee for that card and not the $30 declared value.

I wouldn’t think you could put a high declared value on a card that wasn’t worth that amount. They might refund actual value based on auction prices if they acknowledge damaging something.

There is. In the customer request center, you can submit a ticket for "quality insurance". They will have you send the slab back to them for review. They ask for any pictures you had of the card before sending for grading. They also asked for a detailed explanation of the damage. Be prepared to draw lines and circles around the pictures of the damage and point out where damage exists now and did not before. Then if they approve the claim, they will send you a reimbursement offer.

I had a card that was damaged and you could tell it had been stuck between the slabs when they were putting it together. It was a vertical line that perfectly matched the slab. After making my case, they offered me a credit in the amount I declared on my original submission. I knew I had another order coming up, so I took that credit against my future order. They also sent me back the damaged card in the slab.

Dec Special - 13 cards ultramodern
Order Arrived: 12/19/2024
Grading: 2/3/2025
Assembly: 2/4/2025
Assembly (Checkmark): 2/10/2025
Grades Ready: 2/12/2025

10's -5
9's - 6
6 - 1
5 - 1

Last four orders have been pretty bad. 50% or less gems on ultramodern. All previous orders were 70-80%. May have to start submitting through Gamestop.

I had an order hit green check mark assembly yesterday.

A few pages ago there was some mention of a way to see the graded card in the source code? That was taken away though it seems, so there is no way to find out a grade now until you actually get to grades ready correct?

I have a fun one to report on. I have a 1980's order stuck in R&ID since 11/22. I reached out last week what the issue could be as the estimated completion date was on 2/6 and found it odd that the order hasn't moved into grading.

PSA gets back to me that they are looking into it. A couple of days later another PSA rep gets back to me and said they found that there was a missing card in the order and they looked back at the video they said that they record when opening packages and could not locate it.

Ok, yes, I probably missed the card, it was a base common and I have done that a couple of times where I will accidently input a card that wasn't included (I catalog my psa cards on a document prior to entry) or miss a quantity that should have been 2 instead of 1. Whenever PSA catches this though, they reach out usually a few days to a week after it goes into R&ID. I also realize this will prolong the process as it is even mentioned when you submit an order so I take that into consideration that the order may take longer.

What is frustrating however is that I didn't learn of any of this until I actually reached out. I also find it strange too that it took them 3 months to do a video review of a missing card....or whatever the excuse was.

Fast forward to today, the order is still in R&ID.

Has anyone here submitted cards though Gamestop? Wondering if there's any difference in turnaround times for Gamestop vs. personal subs.

I’m curious about that too and planning on submitting a small 6 card order via GameStop this weekend. I’ll post an update when it’s all said and done.

There is a thread in this forum about GameStop submissions.

I’ve got 3 orders received from Dec- mid Jan that are all still in research & ID

I’m officially done with PSA after their incredibly inconsistent grades on top of their new stricter grading requirements.

SGC and CGC from now on

Would this actually work if cards are not serial numbered? I mean there would really be no way to prove it unless there is some kind of mark or something on the card to prove that it is the original card you submitted for grading. I did take pictures of some orders prior to sending in but they were non-serial numbered cards so I wasn't sure if I was just wasting my time with this.

We’ll just have to find out, I suppose. I plan on taking pics of every card prior to submission moving forward.
