Wow. They have had some nice Yankees cards in these over the years. I will miss picking them up.

Even though I love vintage Topps designs, that's fine by me.....the concept has run out of ideas and is largely running on fumes....I think I bought one card this year (the 88/89 Hockey Buster Posey).

When they have a design I like, it doesn't include players I want....when it has the players I want, the design is uninteresting.

It's sad but apart from the hot rookie of the moment or the very very rare veteran Twins player, I wasn't buying much, that's for sure.

Yep, it is a bummer. They announced on the current set's cards. Go here and scroll through the cards until you see the picture of the back. Read that and you'll see it.

Overall, I think they've done a great job and hard to believe they've been doing it for 8 years. I'll also miss picking up the occasional fun card. I've gotten some nice Bobbys and some random rookies here and there.

That's fair and probably one of the reasons they're bringing it to an end. Maybe they'll bring back eTopps and let me finally get my cards without paying a million dollars to ship them.

I think one of the (many) things that's disappointed me from Topps over the years is how they've failed to utilize their non-baseball card designs (many of which were featured as Throwback Thursday sets) for use as inserts/parallels in regular Topps products.

They've used a few over the years in Archives (71-72 Hockey, 72-73 Basketball), and did a small groups of 5x7's using the 1977 Star Wars design, but that's about it outside of Throwback Thursday products.

Can you imagine how popular a 300-500 card Heritage/Archives style set using the 1977 Star Wars design would be?

Or sets using the 1956 or 1957 football designs?

How about an insert set using the 1979-80 Topps 3-panel design?

Or sets using the 1971-72 or 1979-80 hockey designs?

The possibilities are endless....

Maybe they can restart that set and chase after retired 1/1 cut cards (or live autos of living players) of the history of the day...They would sell millions!!!!

And that's it, the end of the line for Throwback Thursday.

I didn't miss any of the Star Wars sets during it's 2 year run.

The new weekly thing replacing it is going to be a mix of properties as I understand it.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but is the Throwback concept officially and formally dead? I am trying to structure my B Witt binder and was curious.

Thanks for confirming!

There used to be a Throwback Thursday header in the menu but I can't find it anymore, seems to be then?

It says on the back of the last few cards that they are done with the series and they'd probably know

I believe if you contact CS, they can offer you a deal to ship without the one touches.
That’s the biggest cost to factor in shipping. Average one touch is about $2, so any sizeable order is you paying for them to ship them in one touch.

Surprised topps hasn't come up with something to replace TBT yet.

Maybe I don't understand how easy or hard it was for them to make these cards but it didn't seem like they were generating a whole ton of revenue on these releases TBF.

Yeah, you would think. Whenever I bring it up, they ignore that question and change the subject.

The problems were twofold....

1) the price point
2) the checklists

$5-7 for what was effective a "base" card is not cheap, and with only 6-12 cards in each design, you generally ended up with a mix of players people wanted, and players people couldn't care less about.

I think they would have been better off with more focus.....limit the designs and make the checklists bigger...i.e. maybe 100 cards per design released in ten 10-card blocks, each with a mixture of HOFers and current stars....something along the line of 2019 Reflections, for example.
