Default Former Postal Employee Admits To Stealing Valuable Trading Cards

https://www.justice.gov/usao-nj/pr/b...rds-and-sports

Hooray!

Quote:
NEWARK, N.J. – A Bronx man formerly employed by the United States Postal Service as a sorting clerk admitted to theft of mail, Acting U.S. Attorney Vikas Khanna announced.

Shelby Dozier, 34, of the Bronx, New York, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Esther Salas to an Information charging him with theft of mail by a postal service employee.

According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court:

In August 2022, Dozier was hired by the United States Postal Service as a sorting clerk and assigned to the Clifton Main Post Office. Shortly after Dozier started his employment, numerous parcels destined for a consignment auction house located in Clifton (“Company-1”) went missing. Company-1 specializes in the sale of trading cards and sports memorabilia that it receives from customers around the world.

Between September 2022 and December 2022, Dozier stole the contents of at least 10 parcels that were mailed to Company-1. The stolen parcels contained valuable trading cards and sports memorabilia that Dozier sold to either individual customers or sports collectible stores. As part of his plea agreement, Dozier agreed to pay restitution to the victims in the amount of $108,692.49.

Here's some additional details.

https://x.com/Paul_Lesko/status/1884604881794642322

Allegedly opened/stole some of the items in the USPS locker room.

Also thought this was funny.
"Company 1" does appear to be Probstein and "Company 2" is obviously PSA.

The government, running an advertisement for psa, suggesting that grading is objective?

Thanks for posting. Interesting item in #14 above. “Shortly thereafter, Company-4 purchased the two Michael Jordan cards and the Mickey Mantle card. After purchasing the three cards, Company-4 quickly re-sold the cards at a fraction of their value.” Seems like Company-4, identified as a collectibles store in the Bronx, knew they were buying stolen items.

I'm actually surprised that this doesn't happen more often, given that many USPS employees are temps, especially around the holidays.

Given that addresses tell you who a package is being sent to, it wouldn't be hard, for example, for someone to target and steal packages headed to authenticators or auction houses.

It's amazing how often USPS/FedEx/UPS employee theft is sniffed out because of the thief leaving all the empty boxes by the side of the road or in this case in the employee locker room(?article 13. above) for others to discover.
Not only a dishonest employee but a poor thief as well.

My package doesn't appear in the text I see above, but I'll read the whole article...

I had a $25k+ package stolen from that PO around that time. They prosecuted the guy recently, but none of my cards were recovered, I even found two for sale online after they were stolen. It's such a long process and I doubt I'll ever see any cards or restitution, but hopefully!

People steal toilet paper and tampons from their place of employment and people are SHOCKED when people steal things with liquid value.

You would think someone would be bright enough to have Friday night marshmellow roasts in the backyard.

Wow. Do you mind if I ask what was stolen of yours? If you're able to go into it, I'd love to hear about how and when you were notified about this, how much money you received, etc.

Also, your name, address and bank account number into which the restitution was or will be deposited. Because it was intentionally omitted from the publicly filed documents but critical to our understanding of the story.

Package was stolen November 2022
Contacted by a postal inspector January 2024
Today I received the email that the thief pled guilty
Probably a long time before any restitution lol
