Based on how long it usually takes to get an item posted an elite auction (swap happened 12/27, auction goes live 1/23), these parents of the kid must have been emailing Goldin before they even got back to their car.

And to the people that are going "Well, maybe this family really needs the money" GTFO, the family was sitting in courtside seats that probably cost over $1k each, they don't "NEED" that money. They suck!

they're all "non-associated" patches?

my guess is the Mercury haters who posted about boxes being down 20% aren't going to come back 3 months from now and post how these cards are "down 75% from peak"

Upon reflection, I don't get the uproar about selling a memento that the hobby has defined as a big ticket commodity. Might as well sell right after the event, when attention is at its peak. And Wemby got a size 4 jersey in return, fair all around.

The fact they flipped it so quickly to Goldin is a bad look. But might have a trickle down effect of players not wanting to do similar types of swaps with fans, as the odds of the fan immediately flipping the item for profit will be high. What player wants to do what they think is a nice gesture to a true fan when it turns out it was the parents behind everything that just wanted to get a rare item to hawk on Ebay/Goldin?

If this family in question decided to sell several months/years down the road, there would be minimal backlash I'm thinking. The fact they had Goldin on the line before they even got home from the game is just really bad optics. Not to mention the jersey was supposed to be for a little kid.

I mean if you look past the scattered collage of objects and typographic discord, then yeah it’s ok.

I would assume that would do very well.

That is a sweet looking card.

I see that point but the kid had a peak experience with a hero. It was that experience that really mattered. I bet they went to concession and bought him another jersey. At that age, most kids fine with that, rather have something they can wear. The only reason a star should care is if it creates huge copycat scenarios, wasting their time.

Then consider, half the reason for exchanging a jersey in public is publicity. Maybe the privacy minded parents didn't want the NBA or Spurs milking clips of the moment all season in promos, which they probably got. Maybe they even have a charity they urgently want to support through an auction sale. In which case hoarding is the bad look. I withhold judgement.

People still care about this jersey thing after his assistant posted a crying emoji?

Who cares

I would sell it as well if I needed money

Anyone thinking he actually cares is a crazy person

Agree …. Except for the “crazy person” part. I’m think naive would be more accurate.

These essentially look the same as the RPAs that actually do exist, except where the auto would be it instead says 23-24 rookie

From the price history, these seem to go for much more than the alternative patch cards in the product (they also go for quite a bit more than the lower tier mercury RPAs)

Any thoughts?
The demand/price is soft. Relative to other recent lottery picks and their NT /99s, the Wemby should be selling for $8-10k. The earliest NT auctions with the highest possible prices barely cracking $5k is telling, and it's downhill from here.

I think part of the reason for this is that a lot of the demand is going towards real autos and GUs in unlicensed Topps products like Mercury. And for the thousandth time, Mercury /99 is selling for less than licensed NT /99, but a debut Mercury /99 relic is still selling for $2k months later which shows plenty of people shockingly like to collect real relics from their favorite athletes regardless if an NBA stamp is on it.

Im just constantly not surprised by how little value is in an average NT box. You could literally hit a prime Wemby non-RPA and barely make value back.

Yes, you’re better off keeping the box sealed (and every box, but I digress).

The majority of those are listed by super shady Chinese sellers. Good luck

A non-auto'd '09-10 NT replay patch being his flagship RC is an absolute travesty.

I would not feel over the moon about owning either that or one of his airbrushed autos.

Aesthetically, that and the airbrushed chromium auto are the two that stand out.

With the vert non, you just immediately notice the lack of an auto and the Colossal patch. This one looks like old banknote.

If you don't want publicity, don't go draw attention to yourself by sitting courtside at an NBA game holding up a sign asking Wemby for a jersey swap.

And if your priority is raising money/awareness for a charity/good cause, why wouldn't you mention it in the auction listing?

The other side of it, did Wemby know the family was going to flip it right away? If he did and he still gave the jersey, I'm fine with it. If not, it's shady and just looks bad for the hobby.

Not trying to panic but wemby has been pretty mediocre his last 5-6 games after lighting it up...anybody think he is having fatigue issues?

Probably

Difficult for anyone to keep up the scoring like he was doing, that's MVP-caliber stuff
