I guess time will tell if I made a big boo-boo but I feel good about it for now.
It all depends on all what the specific cards were and what value was exchanged. I moved almost all of my “big” Trouts awhile ago into other bigger cards of other players. At the time I actually took a little haircut to consolidate but still did well in retrospective. But I do miss the Trouts so I’m looking for a nice ‘09 BCA again.

Amazing card, and congrats on the successful jail break! There’s also the option of sending in BGS slab to PSA to crossover, right? Guessing there are downsides to that too. I’m new at this…

Nice vertical. Crazy that this came out out well before high number!

And thank you for all the nice comments and complements!

Haha, I definitely did not acquire this at a "great value" but I couldn't resist the clean crisp auto and thought of it with a color match PSA flip. Never know what the future holds though!

I was okay cracking this one out because I'm targeting a cross from a BGS 9 to a PSA 9. Otherwise you're at the mercy of condescending graders with heavy biases. I only crack 9.5s if 1) I'm SURE it's going to gem, or 2) I just really hate the card in that thick baggy-slab and am okay with the slight hit in value.

Stunning eye appeal, big, bold & beautiful on-card rookie auto...
Can't wait to see it in a PSA slab! Congrats Scott!

Unthinkable even 5-6 years ago that a few Asian kids would be disrupting baseball so hard.

Also gorgeous red Heritage! I had my sights on one and then the 50/50 hysteria hit and it got snapped up immediately...someday...

Here's a cheapie I grabbed today, mostly because I'd never seen it before. Pop 4 with only 3 higher.

Can't let Ohtani go to the second page. So here is some low end RC cards I bought because the price was too good to pass on.

Default ✹The PERENNIAL Shohei Ohtani Thread✹

I asked this in the Aaron Judge thread for Judge rookie autos. Figured I’d ask here too.

What is in your opinion the best Ohtani rookie auto?

I believe TB answer this before but he advocated for the Bowman, Bowman Chrome, Heritage Real One and Topps Chrome in some order. I’d say that I’d agree. If one wants throw the Topps Finest in there I wouldn’t disagree

Taxes are high in Cali.

That's crazy to me. I feel like I overpaid for my PSA 8 Indy and even that was only $188.

No shot in hell a PSA 10 Sapphire BASE will be worth more than a PSA 8 Indy long term.

PSA 8 cards have a lot of value. Maybe more than 9. A lot times I can't tell the difference between an 8 or 9.

PSA premiums only make sense after wax isn't being opened and condition sensitivity is determined. I never understood paying for a PSA 10 when you could buy/sift through 2-3 copies, grade your own, and still have leftover change.

I can't understand paying a high premium for a PSA 10 when we don't even know if PSA 10 will be the industry standard in 5 years. I guess it makes sense if your time horizon is shorter than that or if you're content with re-grading if the top dog changes in the future when you want to sell. Also its fine if you just like having all PSA 10s in your collection for consistency. That is just a crazy premium to pay in my mind on most cards.

The "firsts" always cost more. The first singles of a new release, the first graded copies, etc.

Patience can save one a lot of money, and to your point, there will be 1,000 graded copies of the varietal being discussed.

Exactly. Never buy PSA 10s unless it is something very difficult to get yourself minty raw or if the price is right around grading cost. I've added a few low end Ohtani PSA 10s for grading cost or less that I just wanted for my collection, nothing rare really but stuff like Ginter SP or recent inserts. Have no idea why people would spend the money to grade Ohtani, get a 10 and then just immediately sell it for grading cost or less.

If I had an unlimited budget to get any Ohtani rookie auto I wanted, I would personally go with the Bowman Chrome. Batting pose, great card. That would be my choice.

I bid on the BGS 9.5 2018 Mother's Day /50 and the PSA 10 2018 TC green wave /99 this week.

I thought they both were pretty strong at 2250/4250 respectively.
