Default eBay Shipping - anyone else have problems?

Hey guys, don’t usually start new threads, but over the last two days, I’ve had 7 items that showed on eBay as delivered but weren’t (all with eBay shipping/tracking). I did receive 4 items with eBay shipping during that time. Anybody else having problems with the eBay shipping/tracking? Same thing happened in the summer - so frustrating!

Pretty common problem is these were eBay Standard Envelope shipments....tracking starting with ESUS. If Ground Advantage type shipments I would be a little concerned.

Thank you for the responses. I know the eBay standard shipping has problems, but why are they being scanned as delivered?

They are only scanned as they pass thru sorting machines, never by hand, never by the guy/girl doing the actual delivery. Sometimes the envelope is scanned at a location with a sorting machine that is many miles away, then put onto a truck and shipped to your local post office for delivery. That can sometimes take and extra day or two for the actual delivery.

Standard envelope shipping doesn't have real tracking through USPS. It's some sore out algorithm estimates. But Ive has stuff said delivered and it showed up weeks or even a month later. I just got a card that took 1 year and 10 months to arrive.

Standard envelope only gets scanned at regional sorting locations, and then I believe ebay marks them as delivered a day after they are scanned at your closest regional sorting location. But they often take another day or two to actually get delivered. And I've had a couple take a week or more, especially during busy times like the holidays. Hopefully your cards show up soon. But even if they don't, at least ebay self insures them so you should be able to get a refund if they don't show up (and the sellers will get reimbursed by ebay).

I asked our mailman about this, and he said they're scanned as they leave the PO sorting center and then it's basically assumed that they're delivered. Imagine if the mailman stole my mail! He probably really wants that 1999 blue starquest Griffey card. He could sell it for 99 cents!

I've posted this a few times. This was part of a much larger conversation.

Non-machinable mail does get fewer scans, but it does get scanned. Now, to understand why ESE's in general get fewer scans.

Carriers DO NOT scan ESE's. They get scans only at plants. When a carrier picks up a ESE, they do not scan. The first scan is made at the first distribution center it arrives at. It gets scans along the way until it reaches the final distribution center. There is one last scan at the center before heading down to the local office. That is the last scan. No one at the local office scans, nor do the carriers. So how does the ESE get a delivered scan? Complicated, but basically a program determines that it left the center/scanned on 1/24 at 3:57 am. That truck will arrive at the local P.O. around 5:30 am on 1/24. Based on carrier inspections, the program knows that the carrier usually leaves at 10:00 am.
It also knows the carriers gets to that delivery address around 2:30 pm on average.

So the program gives the ESE a delivered scan at 2:30 pm. The carrier might have already arrived, or the carrier ran late that day, doesn't matter, it's delivered. This is when people complain they never got the ESE. It can be mis-handled in the post office, given to the wrong carrier, or delayed and not go out until the next day. So always give the actual delivery a 1 day window. ESE scans are not accurate for delivery.

Carriers only scan packages and accountable letters. Nothing else gets scanned unless the carrier is asked to do a sample scan which means for a given address, all mail is scanned. All mail has barcodes and that is what is scanned on a sample scan. That is THE only time a ESE will have an actually delivery scan.

Thank you all for the great information - keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll get a few of the cards in my mailbox tomorrow!
