If you want to build yourself a portfolio and start managing your money over the long term, I would suggest starting with some books to understand what that even means. I think the most common book for beginners would be Peter Lynch’s One up on Wall St.

Stay away from the gamified apps like webull and robinhood. Their job is to get you to gamble, not invest.

There are better places for traders but for simple money management Fidelity has the best platform IMO
I've got accounts that are for serious investing that other people handle. I want something where I can buy and sell when I want to. Not daily, that was the wrong wording, but just where I can do it myself. I looked at crypto stuff, but I don't get it at all.

Then probably robinhood. Based on the wording of this it feels like you just want to gamble some money.

Possibly. We don't have many options for gambling in South Carolina.

It’s your money but if you want to gamble you should just open an account on an offshore site and bet on sports. That way it can scratch the itch and be in small dollar amounts

It’s very easy to lose a lot of money really quickly in the market. There are cheaper ways to burn money

I was thinking about MSPR. can potentially tie this into DOGE and Elon for a PR.

https://investor.lifewallet.com/news...ness-under-msp

I'd wait til jan. 20, 2025 to buy. maybe a few days before. has 7 million shares outstanding and needs to raise money. they target co's defrauding the govt. this may be a flop.

for h5n1, TRAW Pharma has a drug in development.

https://investor.onconova.com/news-r...ase-1-data-flu

has 3 million shares out, 20% owned by orbimed. low float. depends on h5n1 mutation/fear. probably needs more cash.

low float = less haters

https://www.hbs.edu/faculty/Pages/item.aspx?num=19658

quantum is just the "blockchain", "weed", "3d printers" of the week. a more useless version of spatial biology market wise.

I think you can tie reverse splits KALA/XCUR/NUKK together. just reverse split, get a little of extra cash from PIPE investors, then sell stock way higher on low floats/low shares outstanding. if you look on EDGAR they all have a similar type of story.

Let’s hope it bounces back tomorrow a bit! I did another 401k move shift some funds out of fixed. And in my trading account I added a little U, O, and HE.

My 401k updated and I’ve been knocked back to October 15th levels. So knocked out all of my election gains and 2 months of contributions.

My stock accounts have held up a bit better… knocked me back to 11/25 values.

My total gain on my position is +90%. Keep debating whether to jump ship or continue to ride the train.

Happy New Year everybody! Would anybody like to kick of a discussion on stocks they may be looking to accumulate in their portfolio during 2025?

Amazon was the first stock I ever purchased which was Dec. 28th of 2016 so it is by far the largest position for me. I have been trying to slowly add good blue chips stocks not in the tech sector.

Here are some ideas. I've either purchased or will at some point purchase these. You'll notice some obvious themes.

In no particular order - happy to expand on the thesis for any of these names for anyone interested

I will continue to do what I have the last two years. Trading only TSLA, NVDA, and FBTC. Add at every 10% down off my last sale or the most recent high. Selling is a blend of technicals, gut feelings, and tax implications.

Hey Patchgenie… Happy New Year! I have been tracking SGMO since you mentioned them and have been in and out a couple times for tiny gains on tiny positions. I see it dropped 50% recently… do you feel this is a “buy the dip” moment or falling knife? Any reason you can tell for the sharp drop?

MNPR - this is just a low float pump. they only had 6 million left and the deal requires 4 million upfront (3 mil in 90 days). they bought a failed phase 2 asset from Alexion for Wilson's disease. weird PR where it says successful phase 3, but failed phase 2. probably fooling algos. no one's paying 30/share for this. offering coming fast.

my next bio trade is SGMO. they have a path forward for accelerated approval for Fabry's disease. Fabrazyme sell $1 billion/yr, Galafold from Amicus is 400 million/yr.

Amicus for the most part traded over a billion in MC over time before approval. Amicus current MC is 3.3 billion. Could see a partnership or buyout for this. I'd say $5/share would be good on the low end (1 billion).

I got bombed on this one it was due to Pfizer pulling out out of the HemA pact. sgmo was supposed to get money for the BLA filing to keep the company afloat. sgmo has enough money for the next quarter, so the options are sell the company, sell shares, or do a partnership for Fabry.

I'm still holding onto the options cause they don't expire til feb 21st. I think some type of deal will happen and it will rebound. I didn't expect this result. I was up double on them at one point too.

I'm thinking my us steel options will get me back in the game hopefully.

Uber is pretty simple. I think it's undervalued for the opportunity ahead.

Dara is an excellent CEO, great vision, great execution. I like good management teams.

Many people thought it would never be profitable and just did 3.36B in FCF during 2023. Earnings estimates are headed up, profitability looking good and a massive market opportunity on multiple fronts.

I think there's a huge opportunity to dominate the last mile delivery business. There's opportunity in the driverless cars market too, they can partner with companies like Waymo and Tesla. Freight is a bonus

All in all, I don't really see much downside risk. Even if the market gets super concerned with valuation it's relatively cheap for a growth company (~30 P/E). Not to mention some built in growth with buybacks

Bought Uber last week, along with MU Micron. Yes, Micron's report was not great, but the stock price got crushed!. I got in at the upper 80's, and kick myself for not buying at 84.

Revised estimates are for $10+ eps next year. I have no issues holding for a year at that entry price.

Also last week bought EQT, and a few more VST shares.

I agree with all of this. The sell off on Uber pretty much seemed to stem from the Tesla Robotaxi stuff. Autonomous vehicles only help Uber. One of Ubers biggest issues is not having enough drivers. Just think about that.

This hits $100 this year. My initial cost basis was around $30. I’ve been buying it on every dip since then.
