Default Star Trek Trading Cards General Discussion

I don't think we have enough Star Trek fans here to support individual threads for every new Star Trek set, so this is a place to discuss upcoming sets and Star Trek cards in general.

Upcoming Releases

Here's the current release schedule from Rittenhouse, with links as they go live:
  • Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Trading Cards (April 16, 2025)
  • Star Trek Connections Trading Cards (TBD)
  • Star Trek: Voyager Inscription Style Set (2026?)
  • Star Trek 60th Anniversary Trading Cards (TBD) Removed as of 2/4/2025
  • Star Trek Section 31 Movie Trading Cards (TBD) Removed as of 2/4/2025

12 case incentive? Is that why I see so much product flood the market killing early card sales? Which is cool, cheaper is better but after that lest mega set (I forget the name) Koening auto's for 20 bucks.

I’m not a huge Trek fan but did love the Mirror Mirror epsiode… particularly evil goatee Spock! I bought a few raw off of COMC a few months ago and this slab actually just came back today…

I have quite a few Star Trek cards in my collection. I have slowed down a bit. Concentrating more on finishing the missing autos from older shows. Will get patch/autos for a few of the Discovery main crew, only have a couple right now. Not a big fan of that show and I think all the autos from Discovery will just keep dropping in value, so no real hurry I guess. I do like Strange New Worlds a bit more and will start to pick up some of those. I bought I box of season one and got the Mount fantasy world auto. I suspect season 2 we will see patch auto of him along with the other main crew which weren't in season 1. I think those will be the ones I am going to target.

Curious to see what kind of set that will do for the 60th anniversary. TOS has had multiple anniversary sets. We also had a big legends type set with all shows as well. Could go either away.

I have decided to either collect all full bleed autos or the relics and auto/relics from Star Trek Strange New Worlds I have all from Season 1 and am anxiously awaiting Season 2 in March. I think the show has a chance to go on for 5+ seasons and maintain it's popularity.
I put both lots up on ebay but since it's the off season for STSNWs I didn't get any nibbles. Having almost 2 years between seasons does deaden the interest. My plan was to keep whichever lot didn't sell first, helping make my decision.
I have also realized that Steve at RH has most of the signed cards but, as a business practice, let's them out at different times. For instance he probably had Ethan Peck sign everything, full bleed, bordered, inscriptions, inserts, etc. but holds back some for S2 and beyond.
Hopefully S2 will have Mount, Peck, or Romjin full bleeds. Hopefully S2 will have 5 new auto/relics.
Off the top of my head rambling,
Vinny

They just added Rebecca Romijn to the Discovery set!!! I am guessing she signed some stuff for Strange New Worlds as well. That is a big add and will be the most popular I think.

She signed for the 2000 X-Men movie set. That ones dropped below 200 (just a tad) plus she's done signings. I want that x-men card I was pissed I blacked out at my desk waiting for the clock to click down. lol

Rittenhouse does a great job with Star Trek and they're probably the most collector friendly company putting out cards these days but I am not a fan of the incentives for buying multiple cases. It is definitely not collector-friendly. The recent switch from archive boxes to incentive boxes may be even worse. The 12-case incentive box for Star Trek: Picard Seasons 2 & 3 had an exclusive metal parallel set for one of the insert sets. Plus an exclusive metal card, an exclusive promo card, an exclusive relic card, and eight exclusive auto cards.

The 12-case incentive box for Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 may not be quite so bad. There's no checklist yet but the product page only mentions exclusive autos and an exclusive Dual Relic card. And if you buy 24 cases you're guaranteed all four 6-case incentive Ethan Peck inscription auto cards.

I may go big on this or I may sit it out. It's far too early to tell.

Steve Charendoff shared last month that Jeri Ryan "is signing cards for us again" which is good news. She signed for Star Trek: Picard Season 1 but not Star Trek: Picard Seasons 2 & 3.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 came out a few days ago. I've only seen one episode so I don't collect the cards. The Character Foldout Cards look nice. I'm glad to see the incentive box only has exclusive autos (four of them), a dual relic card, and a foil promotional card. Picard Seasons 2 & 3 included an exclusive metal parallel to one of the insert sets in the incentive box, which had me worried Rittenhouse was going to start putting more than just exclusive autos and promo cards in their incentive boxes.

Steve Charendoff posted this on 12/18/2024:

Quote:
We are working on some cards for Lower Decks and Prodigy that will likely be included in one of more Star Trek card sets in 2025. Tawny Newsome has signed cards of her live-action character for the upcoming Strange New Worlds cards, and we're hoping to include Jack Quaid, too. We're still working on these projects, so stay tuned!

Also from the SciFiHobby.com message board:

Quote:
We have received several inquiries regarding the “2024 Rittenhouse Archives Appreciation Packs” that were recently given away to a small number of our higher volume dealers and distributors. Below is a list of what can be found inside each pack. Keep your eyes out for the elusive Game of Thrones: Legends of the Realm GOLD P1 promo card numbered to 1/1!
Each Appreciation Pack Contains 5 different promo cards:

• 1 Emerald Game of Thrones: Legends of the Realm P1 promo card (unnumbered) • 2 (of 3 different) Star Trek SNW Red Foil Promo cards (P1 and/or P2 and/or P3, each limited to 50 each, but unnumbered) • 1 Game of Thrones: Legends of the Realm P1 promo card: Either a Ruby (numbered to 50), Opal (numbered to 25), Aquamarine (numbered to 12) or Gold (numbered to 1) • 1 Cheers P1
https://www.scifihobby.com/bboard/di...?threadid=3941

I think the Star Trek SNW Red Foil Promo cards are exclusive to these appreciation packs. They're not listed on the SNW checklist. It's nice that Rittenhouse wants to show its appreciation, but they have to know these are going to end up on eBay and force any serious set collectors to cough up a lot of money. In fact, there's a full set of the three promos on eBay right now with a $750 BIN. I also see P1 with a $200 BIN and P2 up for auction starting at $149.99

The latest from Steve Charendoff, posted 12/27/2024:

We are planning a major Star Trek retrospective in 2025, that will include more TOS. And we are also planning a major TOS retrospective in 2026, in celebration of the show's 60th Anniversary. Lots more Shatner autograph cards, including some autograph/relic cards! And more Nimoy autograph cards that we've had in our inventory for several years. Exciting stuff!

I'm pumped to see SNW S2 in March. We were a bit concerned that they may glob S2 and S3 together given the lag time as Vinny noted.

We recently completed SNW S1 The Elysian Kingdom metal cards set #/75. I think if we can complete the bordered autograph set of 7 (missing T'Pring) and get all the single relic cards (missing 10) I'll be satisfied.

I've never been a huge Trek fan, though I can respect it's legacy. I collected autos of actors and actresses who appeared on Seinfeld and Lost (though I stopped Seinfeld a while back). The ST sets were always a treasure trove of people who appeared on other things. Tons of "oh yeah, I remember that person!"

Star Trek Nemesis, the boxes were dying on shelves to I picked up several cheap. Ended up with 3 Tom Hardy's (it was his first film but I did like the acting) and 2 Chris Hemsworth (spelling? He was only on screen for 5 minutes then died). So yeah often the "not star trek star trek auto's turn out awesome.

I wouldn't mind picking up a 1979 Topps ST The Motion Picture unopened box.

I always wondered why that movie got bad reviews. I thought it was pretty good.

It's up there with part 5 in the "oh this is terrible" realm of ST movies, at least to most fans. If you like it or are hardcore and follow the books and stuff it gives 1 of several origins of the Borg decades before the Borg were a thing. So again, just like the rest of them, you like what you like.

I'd argue it used to be regarded that way but since the director's cut, and with re-releases on the big screen showing off that stunning score...more people have come around to TMP.

I’m a HUGE Star Trek fan of all the iterations, sans one(And No, It’s NOT Discovery. I love Discovery). I collect from every Trek release except the one I’m not fond of. I am also a part-time seller, and I focus on Trek. Plus, since I don’t have a Brick & Mortar store, I don’t really have access to Upper Deck and now the evil Fanatics. I just added Romulan Kirk to my PC, quite excited by that. I got it for a good price. Even though Shatner has signed a million times, his price is creeping up past Nimoy’s, which does surprise me a bit.

I try to never judge a movie based on the trailer. At least ever since Prometheous. Which I can't spell. But the trailer had me so pumped and it looked like it was going to be amazing. Then I got to see the film.

Has anyone picked up the Rittenhouse 25 Years of Star Trek card that was available at the 80th Philly Non-Sports Show last May? I don't know if it was given away or sold but I bought a copy on eBay months ago and promptly forgot about it.

There's a similar card for The Twilight Zone.

Default Happy to see more info on RH...

I have all the first series full bleed cards (and duals) and there's a nice chunk of top stars shown for Series 2.
Anson Mount (Captain Pike)
Carol Kane (Pelia)
Rebecca Romijn (Una Chin-Riley)
Paul Wesley (James T. Kirk)

Oof. I'm not a big enough fan of the show to go after this but the set collector in my is grimacing at the thought of putting together some of these insert sets. At some point, the chase stops being fun.

It's a subtle push to get buyers to buy case quantities over box quantities.

I've participated in Ian's group breaks for Trek and much of the time, the insert sets are complete within a single case.

I'm sure participants often sell these sets off as their luck dictates.
