I'm still hoping for some kind of Alex Ross Masterpieces set.
I didn’t know they were homages, pretty neat.

I always wanted an Alex Ross MM set. We have that Ross triptych in MM07 but a full fledged set would be so nice. I know UD lost the license but I’ll still hold out hope even if it’s in the far future. One issue with getting him in recent years (after Bianchi’s 2018) is that UD started going away from classic comic artists for MM and more towards Magic the gathering/fantasy artists. Not sure why.

While not as bad, still not gradable. Great looking cards though.

Default Skybox 2024 1992 MM Platinum

Saw the same thing on the Venom holofoils listed on COMC. The uncirculated image is *misleading* in many (possibly most?) of these cases.

Clearly the owners elite-scanned to check if suitable for grading, saw the massive off-center, then didn’t grade.

Edit: typical example-

Now I’m wondering with chasing a whole set of holofoils on comc im going to end up with a binder of every card massively off center, d’oh.

I'd definitely go with either scanned in cards on COMC or live cards you can check the centering on via eBay etc. After some looking it seems like COMC got a "bad batch" or something. I watched and was in quite a few live breaks of this stuff and while the holofoils seemed to have dinged corners in a lot of breaks, I didn't see badly OC holofoils on a regular basis.

Only opened two packs on epacks before it sold out. Pulled one blue traxx and this holofoil. Paid the $2 for the scan to consider getting it graded.

Isn't there a saying about getting what you pay for?

Just kidding, hopefully they're not all like that venom^

Took a while and a lot of effort, but I have finally managed to trade away some of my lesser desired epack cards from my 2.5 box of openings for enough silver surfer base cards to combine a kaleidoscope. With that, I think I have finally break even with how much I spend on epacks, here's what I have left:

Opened my first blaster case yesterday and no purple variant. Will likely get into my other case tonight, with my luck I’ll get skunked again

It's the last day of 2024, we should each list our regrets pertaining to this hobby, for me, it is starting late and not buying enough of the 92 platinum masterpieces epacks. If I knew how much of a demand that the mini-box and kaleidoscope cards would generate, I would have bought a case or more of this product. I was hesitant at the beginning because opening epacks is generally an addictive and costly endeavor, and the value you get from it is normally worse than the physical, but this epack product is an anomaly, caused by short product allocation to epack, due to the loss of Marvel license and time restriction; something that I don't see happening again in the near future.

Managed to trade some of my Epack cards for Pink Laser variant cover Black Cat and Psylocke so not a total loss.

Also snagged clear cuts of the ladies above.

Also picked up a Rogue mini box for $5.

I didn’t spend $1 on epack of this because of how much a money pit that could end up being for me, but I agree it wasn’t a bad proposition looking back and the combinables. The thing is we just couldn’t know about the epack allocation being so low. Major congrats on the Surfer Kaleidoscope, I have no idea how you pulled that off. Trading for that character must have been brutal.

My biggest regret with this set was buying those 3 physical boxes at preorder for $950. At current prices after the comc tanking of anything unnumbered or high numbered like pink lasers, I think I got seriously about $40 tops value out of those 3 boxes.

Really hoping the 2nd will have one for you. I think I have one more blaster case incoming and I’m no longer feeling that optimistic. Given that some appear to not be having one. I wonder if it was some abnormal luck previously in this thread.

Pickup off the bay and wasn’t too bad priced at all. Still needed this one for the purple set.

I’m almost wondering if every Holofoil on ePack is terrible centering. As orion said, like a bad batch. For the entire ePack run…you gotta wonder. Something to keep in mind if piecing together an entire set off there like I was trying to do.

Definitely interested in what the bulk of the Holofoil look like. I may just stick to eBay buying for those for right now…although it’ll be a price difference.

On the purple crystal variant note, I did a rough count of current eBay numbers, both active and sold. I think this is one of our best ways to estimate the prevalence of them. I counted 416 reg purple crystals and 16 variants. That’s like 1 per 26 boxes which is just over 1 a case on average. I’m not saying that has to be the ratio, but we are getting into pretty large numbers to help justify it. I still think it might be more like 1 in 1.5ish cases on average.

Didn’t hit a variant until my 30th blaster, but at least it was a solid character! Have a happy and safe New Year everyone!

Incredible one to hit- beautiful looking card! That’s a top 5 in the set easily for me.

Thanks, it took a lot of effort to get enough surfer base and mini-box cards for it. I have checked the marketplace and manually looked over a few hundred accounts with surfer base and about 50-60 accounts with surfer mini-boxes, and requested over a hundred trades, and if it didn't work out, I would go back with better offers. After the ebay sales of kaleidoscopes, trades for the base cards became much harder, the last 2 surfer base cost me a rainbow variant of major victory and a 30 card lot.

All the power to you….doing a hundred plus trades on epack is not something I’d be eager to do! I will say the spoils in the end are worth it in this case….such a nice one in Surfer. I really like the art of him in this set, might even be my favorite Surfer card.

I gave up on chasing the surfer kaleidoscope on epack and bought one on ebay. I feel like a guy needed a case worth of cards on epack just to have enough to trade for one of the top 3 characters.

Or a lot of effort, since I only opened about 2 and a half boxes.

Well, bought another 2 hobby boxes and 3 blaster boxes, and these are my hits:

The Spiderman and Capt spectra are rainbow, the silver surfer is a regular spectra.

One last image to add to the thread...Mini Boxes. The ePack Holofoils I've seen scanned in are almost ALL way o/c top to bottom. The few Mini Box scans I've seen are slightly to badly o/c top to bottom and the few Kaleidoscope card I've seen also seem to be slightly to badly o/c top to bottom. So, buy unscanned Holofoil/Mini Box/Kaleidoscope with that in mind, if you're thinking about grading and/or o/c cards bother you in your PC
