The Crossover is my favorite semi-weekly podcast. The guys that created card ladder do it. They answer viewer questions and shoot the sh#t about cards, the hobby, sports, etc. Only drawback is they don't know anything about baseball, but the show is still somehow better than any baseballcard-centric content.

Heh, thanks for watching. I'm often in a shirt and tie and it was convenient to record the video wearing it. Not sure if I'll keep it up for future videos or not.

As for Jack McDowell and Mark Whitten...maybe I'll do a video on White Sox brawls in general. They've certainly had some good ones, though they haven't typically come out on top. Obviously the Robin Ventura/Nolan Ryan brawl was a tough one for White Sox fans. The White Sox/Tigers brawl of 2000 isn't remembered much anymore, but has got to be way up there on the list of most violent of all time.

There's probably some truth to this, but I think some are better than others and I'm hoping to be counted among those. Mike of @BaseballCollector, Adam of @SplendidSports, Dylan of @DoubleDvintagebaseballcards, @SammyThunder, and John Mangini of @MrJmangini all seem to have a little more purity in their motives than some that trend more towards the shock jock approach to content.

Curious for some thoughts on other followers of Chasing Cardboard - it is still a fun watch and very well put together show, but it also feels like it has changed from its early stages. It feels to me like it's gone from a show highlighting really cool collections with really cool stories and having that story be the centerpiece of the show, to more lately about "what collections can I find for my resale business and can I make a deal for it". There have still been some decent stories in the latter type of episodes, but it feels like those are more of an occasional bonus and not the main focus anymore. Definite switch to more about what it's like being a reseller and showing some of the things that go into all that

Curious if anyone else feels similarly. Like I said, it's certainly not a bad show and it's still fun to watch, but I just keep waiting and waiting for more episodes like some of the early on ones and they just don't seem to happen anymore

I don't really feel this way about CC. He's definitely doing some shorter videos that focus on reselling and he's done some crossover work with other channels, but I feel like the main episodes are still what they've always been. I view it the same I would any tv show. A run of episodes and then downtime when they are filming new ones. But to fill the void, he's creating different types of content in between the larger episodes.

i would rather rather watch my friends channels than these polished talking heads that have been mentioned. learning is better than being entertained by over production

If you're looking to learn about cards, there's a great podcast about sketch cards, nonsports cards, and art more generally called The Pencilled in Podcast with Ingrid & Lindsey. It's an interview series with Ingrid KV Hardy (@jedipencil on here!) and Lindsey Greyling, both talented sketch artists, who talk to other sketch artists, industry people, small publishers, and collectors. It's super informative about the nonsports world. It's worth watching or listening to all the episodes, because all the stories are interesting.

I haven't watched episodes in any particular order so I can't speak on the evolution of the content. As someone who used to buy coin collections (probably bought 40-50 or so between 2006-2012) I can say you have to evolve in your ways. You learn quickly that you get a lot of filler crap with the good stuff that you truly desire and most of the time can't just cherry pick the premium items. Like him, I was buying stuff for my own collection and the unwanted stuff would have to resell. To keep the cash flow aspect going to allow the ability to buy more collections, you had to turn the unwanted coins over quickly. I wish I had documented each purchase like the show as it would be fun to go back and watch each one to see when and where and for much I acquired things that I still have today.

Yeah the “let’s go buy a boring collection from some dude on Facebook” episodes of Chasing Cardboard are a snooze fest. But when they highlight a really special collection, those episodes are awesome. I loved the one where the old man died and his family didn’t realize how insane his collection actually was. He collected pretty much everything but his vintage baseball cards were amazing. I think they ending consigning with CC and probably made more money that way. I know there’s no way for them to know when they’re gonna find collections like that but we need more of those and less guys who went into debt from 2020-2023 trying to offload their modern collections

I've enjoyed their content. I don't watch breaks, psa submission reveals, maildays, etc. That stuff is exceedingly boring. The 3-4 really special collections a year that CC finds are a really fun watch, but I'd rather watch the other ones they find over some guy opening his mail as well.

I didn't see this thread before and will check out some of what others mentioned. I'll say this though, the first couple I explored were not promising.

Oh yeah even the worst episode of Chasing Cardboard is 100X better than that other content. I just hold them to a higher standard. I’d rather watch grass grow than watch a live break or a PSA reveal

Looks like Sports Card Radio is officially done with YouTube. They did a surprise live stream on Thursday, and basically said they have better things to do with their time than hobby videos (I'm not being hyperbolic; they literally rattled off different things they'd rather do with their time than make YouTube videos): https://youtu.be/SUUs5KDJoe8?t=1674

Kind of a bizarre way to end a semi-popular channel (30.2K subs). It looks like several people in the chat were disappointed with their decision and pessimistic on the current state of the hobby. It's all kind of depressing, honestly. It seems like these guys have just aged out of the hobby and don't really care for it anymore -- who can blame them?

Anyway, their critics are certainly happy to see them go -- they got another lawsuit threat the other day lol.

For sports card hobbyists interested in learning about the recent Pokemon TCG craze, Spitballin' Cards had a nice discussion on it: https://youtu.be/rLy5mZFwpio?si=5pdn6cVM5rJP1LzZ

Can’t say I ever watched any of their videos, but whenever I did hear something about they just always seemed unhappy about something. So maybe this is for the best. This will free up time for them to pursue those other things they listed.

Fabiani, what do you collect for fun? I feel like I only see “hobby news” and random outrage posts from you. Not being sarcastic, I’m genuinely curious. I’m sure there’s some aspect of this hobby you enjoy that I’m just not aware of.

Really? I've posted many of my cards on this site. In the baseball section I've posted mainly my PC players -- Barry Bonds and Buster Posey.

Baseball Card Collector Investor Dealer is the GOAT. Glad to see he's been mentioned a bunch of times already.

One reason I probably gravitated to the SCR bros on YouTube is because they are from the Northern California region and Giants fans like myself.

Ah. I don’t follow the Bonds thread, and only occasionally peep in on the Posey thread. He’s a great modern player to collect though, catcher of the decade (‘10-‘19) for me.

Here's a show-off thread I did for multi-player autograph cards (the first one includes Rickey Henderson -- RIP):

The SCR guys were miserable. And I'm a pretty cynical person in general but those guys were just absolute trash.
