That’s why Dacard has a separate “guaranteed fresh” or whatever designation for boxes they pulled from their own cases.

I agree that this is a problem, but I assign it mostly to smaller/ebay/Mercari sellers. I give more credit to the big internet sellers (Blowout, DA, Steel City) for being honest and not being shady, though they also buy boxes back from customers.

No retailer can be as bad as Amazon, who mix all sources (third party, returns, new stock) and don't give a damn about product integrity

For what it's worth, I've gotten good hits from boxes and even from loose packs from DA. This was years ago, but hopefully it hasn't changed!

Hey finfangfan, I tried to send you a PM, but says your mailbox is full. Could you send me a message? Had a question on a sketch you have for sale.

I do like that they do this, problem is that these fresh boxes are normally a good amount more. I guess they should be, but I am selfish and want fresh at the lowest price! Lol

Black Friday may be over but Blowout has both a Holiday Madness Sale and Winter Sale underway at the moment. And the distinguished competition have 12 Days of Deals and Cyber Week, respectively.

At this point it might be simpler to just have one l-o-n-g December sale that starts on Black Friday and ends on New Year's Day.

Ha, sounds similar to when I ripped it, and also similar to the Eternals case I ripped yesterday. Only one auto, Kro (Bill Skarsgard) #ed to 49, and best #ed was a Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani) Purple /15.

Opening any MCU products you really need to be fan of the movie/show and buying for experience of opening sealed product. Missing hits and QC issues are all over. Buying singles is definitely best route.

I don't see how the big three are any different when buying customer wax. The big internet sellers can't determine if someone sells the loose boxes from a case after hitting the autos so it's just as likely as a Mercari seller.

Opened my boxes last night. Got some nice inserts and 2 autos (nobody worth mentioning, 1 from Moon Knight and 1 from She-Hulk). I might make my money back if I piece it all out, so I'll mark it as a win since I haven't opened 5 boxes of cards in one sitting in at least 10 years and had a blast since it didn't break the bank.

I will say, the base sets for all of these are beautiful. My biggest gripe with this break is not a single box yields a base set any more. I'd rather have an extra base card per pack than a lame parallel that neither myself or anybody else wants. So I guess I'll pick up more of these next Black Friday to try to put the base sets together.

Nowadays, with reduced packs/box and greatly increased numbers of parallels crowding out base, it usually takes a few boxes to construct a single base set.
That said, I'm sure there are several of us fellow forum users who will be happy to help you with your base set needs at low cost or even free!

Man I miss those box breaking days.

A box of High Tek, a box of TFA and a box or two of 2014 Chrome Perspectives for around $250 from good old Blowout. Treat myself around once a month to $250 worth of wax (multiple boxes) - so around $2500-$3000 / year - a reasonable amount for a hobby given my income.

Now, I type in Star Wars and look up single box prices on Blowoutcards for older product:

TFA Hobby Box: $174.95
2020 Chrome Perspectives Hobby: $174.95
2020 Topps Holocron Hobby: $249.95
2018 Topps Galactic Files Hobby: $449.95
2022 Topps Chrome Galaxy Hobby: $349.95
2022 Topps Masterwork Hobby: $639.95

Now, the more recent products don't even guarantee hits. I'm seeing High Tek has no guaranteed auto and 20 cards per box - $199.95.

2024 Chrome Galaxy, no guaranteed auto - $259.95.

2023 Signature Series they have at $79.95 a box, that's a guaranteed auto, but watching breaks you'd be lucky to pull one "top tier" auto out of a 20-box case. Otherwise, you're paying $80 for autos of people you've never heard of that you can scoop up on eBay for under $10 a pop.

Pre-pandemic we had it good. To quote Michael Scott from The Office: no, not (" 'You Miss 100% of the Shots You Don't Take - Wayne Gretzky' - Michael Scott"). His other masterful quote ... "I wish there was a way to know you're in 'the good old days' before you've actually left them."

I lay blame for this squarely on breaker culture. People getting into the Star Wars hobby are buying into breaks, hitting a card /199 that the breaker gets WAY too excited about, and the buyer is made to feel happy. Is anybody on this board excited about getting a card /199, even if it's a good character? Whatnot breaks are so cringy - "4th Stormtrooper from the left blue parallel /299, LET'S GOOOOOOO!!!" and then the chat's like "BOOM!"

I think the belief is the big retailers won't plot and scheme to sell boxes without hits while gleefully taking your money and laughing at your misfortune. It's going to happen no matter what once a case or box is opened. That's the chance you take buying loose boxes or packs from anyone, anywhere. It's made infinitely worse with recent MCU products that don't guarantee an auto per box. Nine or ten times out of 12 when you buy a loose box of Shang-Chi or Eternals or Moon Knight or She-Hulk, you're not getting an autographed card.

DACW's "cash fresh" designation really only means the box hasn't been tampered with. It does nothing to guarantee it's one of the boxes with an auto card.

I'm sure there are people on eBay and elsewhere who tear through most of a case, find the number of auto cards or hits they're supposed to find, and sell any leftover boxes or packs knowing the buyer won't get an auto card or other hit. Some of these people may sell their unopened boxes to one of the big retailers, again with full knowledge the boxes are hitless. But is that wrong, ethically or morally? Maybe it is. I don't know.

Yeah, this is why I have bought very little Star Wars The last year or 2. I have 100s of those 199 parallels if those breakers want to buy them from me! Lol
I miss the days of buying 2 cases & dropping $1,000 or less total. I could do this every month by selling enough to get my money back & then have some cards to keep.
These days I do the same with discounted Marvel stuff, because there are no Star Wars products like this.

So BO has 2020 Topps Star Wars Chrome Perspectives: Resistance Vs The First Order 12 Box cases for $1499. Is that a good price?

Not really, I saw it for $1,200 a few months ago. Might not return to that price though. It's always hard for me to pay these prices, since a product like this was $800 for years.

Oh well, I did pull the trigger. Hopefully I pull some decent autos. That does explain why they are still available.

I ordered an Evangeline Lily signed mini poster on 11/28. UD contacted me on 12/5 about an issue with my shipping address, then shipped on 12/6. It arrived 12/9.
