Default Am I right to be this irate?

5 years of selling cards on eBay and I just received my first negative review!

About 2-3 weeks ago I left a negative review for gotcards817 (less than 90 total sales) for a 2022 Bowman Atomic /150 Spotlight of Nolan Gorman. The card had about 4 surface issues, including a piece of dirt that I don't want to try and scrape off. So I left him bad review on the "item description." He sent me a message blaming the person who packaged it and offered a refund. I declined and let the bad review stand.

Yesterday, I received a negative review from this same person. He purposefully bought the cheapest card I have listed on eBay just to leave me a crappy review saying the surface of the card was damaged (it definitely was not). I sent him couple messages in response.

Anyone else have something similar happen? Advice on getting his review removed?

Why didn't you take the refund?

I would have taken the refund and assumed he was telling the truth and taken down the negative review. I own a business with a fairly large e-comm component and understand how negative reviews can adversely affect sellers so I try to leave them as infrequently as possible, particularly when resolution is offered.

Did you contact him about your issue before leaving the negative?

Contact ebay, I imagine it will be removed as it is clearly retaliatory.

After the negative, should have blocked.

People can be super salty and extra stubborn these days, even and especially when in the wrong. That said, if you were just an eBay buyer (never sell), what you did is fine. But being a seller as well you have to be more careful. Just my take. Try to contest it if you can?

I'm not going to say that what he did was right but to be fair, you never contacted him prior to leaving him a negative feedback then when he tried to resolve the situation and make you happy, you declined to participate.

Maybe you should both agree to remove the negs and just go your separate way.

Did you leave a neg before letting him know about the problem? That would tick me off as a seller as you aren't even giving the chance to rectify the situation. What he does was wrong as well, but as a seller myself, if i buy something and there's a problem, i give the seller a chance to rectify the situation before leaving a neg.

negs should only be left if A) something very egregious/malice is done such as bait and switch, B) seller does not make a polite attempt to make things right.

Mistakes happen. Let the seller make it right.

Pro tip: block someone after leaving them a negative.

ebay --> help --> search 'block" --> 'blocking a buyer on ebay'

https://ebay.com/bmgt/BuyerBlock?

OP, did you reach out to the seller before leaving negative feedback?

You bought a $5 card and it had a couple issues. Seller offered a refund and you still kept the neg? Yikes. If you left the neg without reaching out to the seller first, double yikes. I really can't imagine being that irate over a $5 card.

I did not. I got the impression he was lying because nothing about his eBay page or packaging gave me the impression that this was anything other than a dude selling cards.

I left the review and then he contacted me.

I wasn't irate at all until he bought a card from me just to leave me a bad review.

Sounds like Karma.

Leaving a NEG when a refund was offered is terrible.

Ebay tends to trend in one direction or the other when removing feedback and they are def on the "Not removing it for any reason under the sun" trend since last year

All this over a few "surface issues" on a $5 card???

The pettiness of both sides here is pretty sad...

Why wouldn’t you give the seller a chance to set things right? Kinda crazy to just drop a negative without any notice.

Good to know some of you are so forgiving! I dunno, something about receiving a card with dirt on it doesn't sit well with me.
