It still amazes me that sports card market turned into gambling ring

There are no winners in this case. Both are losers.

Checked out their YouTube last night.

There wasn't anything going live but it appears the number of breaks they run in way down.

The recent videos were of "G" (with his hair grown out - took me aback!) and his son breaking. Breaks from the last week appeared to be mostly single box breaks of Star Wars Galaxy Chrome 10 spot number breaks (0-10) and Platinum's own branded repack breaks.

Didn't look like the old break HQ either, looked like maybe from their home.

I did break with them pre-pandemic before wax costs went up 10x and before their scandals hit - I always liked "D" - the daytime breaker, and "G" was always nice to me - and man, he was high energy, filling breaks left and right - say what you like but he was a salesman and moved product!

Unfortunately it appears that they lost their access to a lot of product, whether it be due to the "scandals" that have been documented or alleged here, or Fanatics entering the picture, or some combination of both - and lack of product to break doesn't bode well for breakers who look to make a living breaking.

Only a cuck pays another man to handle his goods while he sits and watches. I'll never understand breaks.

B2B transaction so they were probably net 30 and just stopped paying.

I'll keep an eye on the docket. Some states let you view the documents for free and some make you create an account with the particular county's prothonotary to view documents.

Not sure about VA.

Have you tried reaching out the court clerk? I will, if you haven't already done so.
I was hoping someone local would grab the complaint (maybe Blowout will share) but it appears outside of local access, we'll need to submit a document request, to access the case.

Here's a copy of the complaint. The referenced product list wasn't included (court supposedly doesn't have a copy), but Platinum allegedly hasn't paid for about $1 million dollars worth of product.

That's a lot of cabbage. I hope blowout gets what they are owed. My fear is that the money might not be there or they have to settle for pennies on the dollar.

Wow...

Makes me wonder what kind of credit line these breakers get with the distributors.

I'm no business owner but I think at around $200,000 owed I would start tightening the clamps a bit...

Happy to see these guys fall off hard but it got me wondering, how are other breakers, like Layton, doing? I saw that they don't even upload individual break videos on their channel anymore which feels very lazy to me. If I bought into a break and couldn't watch it live, I wouldn't want to skim through a video that's several hours long to find my break.

My thought as well. Almost as if the market and prices weren't sustainable, or, even real.

I wish someone had warned us.

It is crazy that it maybe got this far away from people that that maybe this kind of debt piled up for some (conjecture, obviously, making a lot assumptions here about how they got to that point).

You get to that put professionally the same way you do personally.

Not managing your cash flow, budgeting or projecting properly.

You don’t burn through cases like they do and wind up with 1 million in debt by accident. My guess is they spent at a rate their business model could not sustain.

I would imagine you are correct, if that is what we are seeing here.

Thanks for posting the complaint! I had meant to go digging but straight forgot. I don't get why Frontline (Blowout) is suing in VA. Sure, Platinum undoubtedly sold break spots to people in VA, which gives them jurisdiction, but in my practice it's so hard to collect on judgments as it is, let alone an out of state judgment, as Platinum is a NC corporation that transacted in VA but I'm sure has zero assets there, and Platinum is undoubtedly going to declare bankruptcy.

I'm sure that million is long gone. Unfortunately, this lawsuit is probably an exercise in futility on Blowout's part. I'm just wondering why Blowout didn't flag Platinum's account and stop sending product before they owed them $945,000!!
