Chevy Chase has released a National Lampoons Christmas Vacation box set limited to 300. Looks pretty neat for any Christmas Vacation fans out there. Having all the cast autos will be a fun chase.

Pretty neat! Always wanted to see a set of this. I guess this kind of counts. The GOAT holiday movie.
That Chevy Chase auto in the Santa hat would be the hit of the product to me. What’s up with the card of them in the pig costumes? Deleted scene or is some of this from outside Christmas Vacation?

I like it, just $300…man that’s kinda steep. It does come with a Chevy Chase signed poster at least. I’m debating it but I feel like if I get a relic as the insert I’ll get clobbered.
Would these even be recognized as “official cards”, like in the sense COMC accepts them and PSA graded them etc? Kinda hard to tell.

Ah that explains it. So going outside of strictly this movie. Not super into those but I want that Chevy Chase in the Santa hat so bad.

It looks like the relic cards are also autographed, so that’s something. $300 is still way too much. I hate to say it but the other cast auto cards don’t look great with the autos all over the place and the cards not designed for autos.

The Blackhawk jersey patch would be pretty nuts. But it does just say “personally worn jersey” so could mean a new jersey he put on for a second and not the actual screen used one from the film. Who knows. I do like the relic auto cards.

I've spent more time than any reasonable person would looking at the "sell sheet" on the product page. There's no mention of how many cards are in the set, just that you get seven in each box and one additional insert card. The description also says "In addition each box will have either a rare signed insert card or a personally used Chevy Chase relic card."
To me that means you'll get seven cards, one additional insert card, and "either a rare signed insert card or a personally used Chevy Chase relic card." Both the sell sheet and the description also say "Be on the hunt for rare inserts, personally used Chevy Chase relic cards, and cast autos." That's three different things: rare inserts, personally used Chevy Chase relic cards, and cast autos. Look closely at the seven cards spread out in the sell sheet and the six cast auto cards at the bottom. Six of the seven cards spread out have red borders. The seventh card doesn't have a red border. It's the same image as the signed mini movie poster (you can see the "AS" in Christmas at the top). Five of the six cast auto cards have red borders, the sixth has a green border. The five red bordered cards say "Christmas Vacation" at the bottom. The green bordered card says "Christmas Vacation The Griswold's" at the bottom. You can match all five red bordered cast auto cards to the seven cards spread out on the sell sheet. There's a sixth red bordered card spread out that isn't among the five red bordered cast auto cards. There may be a "base" set of six red bordered cards plus the movie poster card in all 300 boxes. The green bordered card could be the "one additional insert card" mentioned on both the sell sheet and in the description. I sure wouldn't want to pay $300 and not have the complete set of cards. But of course this isn't a true trading card set, it's a movie memorabilia collection that includes trading cards. The Chevy Chase auto relic cards are clearly professionally designed. Some or all appear to be serial numbered # out of ##. Someone who understands trading cards was involved in writing the sell sheet and description. Why go to such effort to make the auto relic cards and then toss them together with a bunch of other stuff? Was a full set of cards planned and never produced? Why wasn't he same time and attention spent on the cast auto cards, which appear to be the base cards with signatures on them at random? This is why I never get anything done. |

Franky I’m a bit confused what to expect with this. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, plus the sell sheet as confusing as it is, very well may be preliminary anyway. But given this info I feel like the “insert” you get will either be a signed Chevy Chase relic card, or a signed base card (so called ‘cast auto’). The only thing that remains is what exactly is that green border card….maybe the 7 spread out cards are not the entire base set and the green border one is also a base (as is the movie poster card, which shows some base are different than the regular red border). But then it wouldn’t be a whole base set in each box. I dunno, it’s confusing. If it turns out the insert card could just be a non-auto insert, I wouldn’t buy. I’m leaning towards the insert is an auto card either way, but cant tell. Heck, I may just say screw it and wait and see if a Chevy-in-Santa-hat auto surfaces on the market and buy it as a single. I’m not sure I see the value in this gamble.

Just my thoughts as someone who’s created/produced trading cards before. The entire set looks custom made. Not that it’s a bad thing as I would enjoy seeing customs become more mainstream. The relic/autos look well done despite being out of place for a NLCV set. I don’t believe Chevy would have a company at his fingertips to create a personal set.
P.S. If Brian Doyle Murray is signing customs I have a MWC card ready for him

300 auto cards isn't a lot, especially spread between the cast. One of the Chevy Chase relic cards looks like it says 2 of 40 (maybe 45?) and two others have unreadable # of ## on them. The fourth relic card shown (pig suit) doesn't appear to have # of ## on it, at least not on the front. Chevy Chase has a Facebook page where there are already two posts about this legacy box: https://www.facebook.com/ChevyChase/ Someone with a Facebook account could leave a comment asking for clarification and hope Chevy or one of his people respond. |

A couple years ago, Chase was selling SNL Landshark Relic Auto cards that were made by Tanner (Mouschi on BO). I wonder if he made these also. His custom work is exceptional.

The boxes left number was 257 at the start of the thread and is now 171. Pretty large change. I do like the relic auto designs, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they were Tanner’s with the designs he can do on customs. The base autos though- if there’s nothing on them to differentiate from regular base, it may as well be an IP-signed auto….Id be disappointed with that at 300. Still on the fence. Big fan of this film for the cult classic it is, and always wanted a set of it, so it’s tempting.

Just like everyone I am confused as to what you actually get in the box. I bought 1 box as I am a big fan.
I think singles are going to be tough to come by. Just looking at the counter it seems boxes are going down 1-2 at a time which would suggest collectors are buying it and not speculators. Collectors will keep the cards. When anyone gets a box in hand I would love to know what is in it. Being in Canada I had to ship mine to a friend so won't get it for a bit. |

Great write up BobCollects. I did not notice half the things you wrote in your post when I first looked at it. Could be a fun chase. |

I would have to assume so. It is fully licensed by the looks of it (I have to assume you need a license to use the movie title). Will be curious what the backs say on them as far as manufacture goes.

Hey guys! I did indeed design and create the auto relic cards of Chevy Chase for these boxes. I was not involved in the creation of the boxes, nor do I know anything about that side of things beyond what it says on the site, but I did want to share with you all a video showing the auto/relic cards up close before they were signed.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OohdOY2MBvc This video isn't to say all of these have been packed out in these boxed sets, but it is meant to show you all what they look like up close. To all who buy, I hope you all enjoy them (especially if you land a card I created! )

Love the video, thanks for sharing. The relic cards look amazing. Did you get to cut up Chevy Chase’s hat and shirt and script and everything else? Or were you sent a box with the items already cut up?

Alright guys! I got off the phone. So, here are the answers about the questions on the sell sheet:
Every box comes with everything shown at the top of the sell sheet. Each box gets exactly that stuff. In addition to that, either one of the cards in the 7 card set they show at the top will be signed, or you will get one of the cards shown at the bottom of the sell sheet. Oh, and @Bobcollects, they sent me the pieces to cut up myself I'm not sure if I'll be back on this page or not (up to my eyeballs in alligators at the moment) but I hope this removes any questions you all have before grabbing a box or five!

Mouschi- Awesome thanks for all the great info and video!
So breaking down the auto's then... Hat - 40 Jersey - 50 Pig - 50 Script - 50 Total is 190 autos That leaves the remaining 5 signers plus Chevy on card to around 20 cards each. This will be one heck of a chase set. Last edited by Malsk; 11-20-2024 at 11:30 AM. |
