The dreaded horizontal bar/print line interpretation also changed around COVID.

Previously you could find cards, usually xfractors with the dreaded Xline that BGS always has dinged but PSA didn’t, sub to PSA with success. That clearly is not the case today or really post Rona

Same. My last order just popped—mostly ultra modern. 33 cards & 3 10’s. This is absolutely insane. Should be 18-20 10’s in this order—someone just went through and put a 9 on everything.

I’m a seasoned submitter. I use the loupe. I measure the centering. I pay extra close attention to the surface. I also look at other examples of the same cards graded to gauge expectations/tendencies. The last 96 cards I’ve subbed—I have 5 10’s. I’m sorry, but that’s no where NEAR accurate.

The only other thing I can think of is that the grades are correct but the handling in the process somewhere is rough. I’ve seen cards I know were 10’s when they were shipped, come back with specks of white on corners that were not there. I’m expecting the 10, I see the 9 and think the grade is wrong, but then see the white on corners in the pics. I’m not sending cards with white corners! I use the extra large penny sleeves to prevent any corner damage. But somehow there is noticeable corner chipping causing lower grades. I know they are using AI, but is a machine mishandling the cards??

Im wondering about this too. Some AI machine is automatically assigning some type of centering or surface grade that just slaps a 9 on everything. It seems like whenever there is some sort of back up, the 9s start to fly.

Same Got Crushed cracked sent to SGC got 2 to 2.5 jumps across the board. I still love PSA more but there is something off the last couple months

Is this for vintage or “ultra modern?” If ultra modern I’m calling BS since reference would be 8 to 10, 7 to 9.5, etc.

I have heard horror stories of cards sent in by customers.. high end cards that came back as a 9 with a white edge that was not there when sent in and they concluded card was switched by somebody??

My September MLB hit R&ID on 10/14 and then went to Grading on 11/6. Unfortunately, I don't think your time spent in that stage is out of the ordinary right now. Just slowwww moving.

I am in the same boat as other people in the thread. I send quite often and the last couple of subs that have come back have been horrendous. Going from average of 60-80% gem rate to 30-40% is not normal. Not sure what is going on over at PSA but the something changed.

I should get my order back in-hand tomorrow but looking at the scans, I see several spots of wear that were not there when I subbed the cards. I sub low end stuff that barely gets a “value” bump if it’s a 10–but would likely have a lower value than the grading cost if a 9. So I’m very careful about what I sub in those types or orders. I would never sub a low end card with a white corner visible to the naked eye. That would be completely pointless. Let alone several cards in the sub. I use the loupe and it has to be “likely gem” all the way around to make it into those subs. My final order was 33 cards (27 ultra modern cards that were “likely gems”). There were 3 10’s. I refuse to believe it. Even if I was WAY off on my estimation, there should be (Al least!!) 15-16 additional gems. Instead…all 9’s.

After seeing the wear marks, I am leaning towards the theory that the handling is rough in parts of the process. Maybe they went through a scanner or AI machine roughly?? Not sure but the marks are real and the grades seem to reflect that damage.

Bulk order went into assembly last week and patiently awaiting the results. Does the list disappear like it used to prior to grade release or that is a sign of the past?

Thanks.

Look for the green checkmark online. Let us know your results. Seems like everyone’s bulk orders are 40-50% gems.

Yikes at the Estimated Completion Date on this one. My last orders have all taken less than a month, so this surprised me.

Update after Research & ID: Only about 1/3 of the pre-grading scans works, the rest have a message stating a technical difficulty or the image was obscured and won't be provided. Doesn't exactly inspire confidence.
