Default Tom Brady the color analyst

I was watching the 49ers/Chiefs game and didn't know who the color analyst was. I was thinking he is really good. He was speaking clearly and gave good insight.

It was Tom Brady.

How does everyone else feel about him as a color analyst?

I think he tries to make everything he says sound ground breaking. It just never seems like a natural, conversational, reaction to me.

I heard that comment.

I think the honesty will be a positive.

Well, it's because Purdy does suck.

Could be, Brady has said he’s missed average throws three times.

Agree. He’s more motivational speaker than color analyst.

Brady reminds me of when Greg Olsen first started. He needs time.

Kind of sounds like him too.

His voice sounds like Olsen. I thought that's who it was.

I heard someone in the media give him the nickname "Captain Obvious". I think that sums up his job so far as a commentator. The first couple of games he would just go silent for 5 minutes at a time. At least he's talking more but he doesn't add anything interesting for me. Maybe he'll get better. I'm a Pats fan and obviously a huge fan of Brady the player but so far I don't need Brady the commentator in my life. I also feel like there is something unlikable about his personality when I'm listening to him. But again he made himself into the greatest QB of all time with hard work so I imagine he could do the same over time in the booth.

His co-analysts tolerate him, even schmooze him because he’s the goat.

Brady is no bueno.

He’s trying real hard to be like Romo, except all he does is talk about “when I played”. He has no charisma and he doesn’t really add much.

That being said, he’s pretty easy to ignore, so there’s that.

I think they're going to have a lot of issues with the rules since he's an owner now -
-not allowed in other team's facilities
-can't watch any practices
-can't attend any broadcast production meetings
-can't criticize any official

I thought Brady called an average game. Missed some average announcements. Got an average receiver's name wrong. Said some obviously average things. Probably an average overall performance.

Been that was since the season started.

Tom Brady draws viewers because he's Tom Brady, not because of any brilliant insight he provides in the role of color commentary. And drawing viewers is what he is being paid for.

^this.

If he adds in interesting insight or recounts interesting stories it's a bonus.

Any data to support your idea that he is drawing viewers?

Honestly, I’m not watching a game because of who is announcing. It’s either on and a good game, or not. So I’m wondering what supports your idea.

Worse case I’ll put it on mute.
