People didn't care about PMGs in 1997 or 1998, people didn't even care about them in 2005 or 2010, up until 2015 people started to care more about them when some big collectors like Nat were talking about how special they are and the herd followed

I'd rather have a set chased by card nerds than by card instagram influencers.

Nat got people to chase PMG Greens.

Geoff told people to chase..... Desmond Ridder.

Yeah they were cool back then like many other cards/set, but value wise “no one cared”, you must admit that people are willing to pay crazy money for them. People didn’t care that much about them compared to other numbered stuff.

Tell me you just joined the hobby without telling me you just joined the hobby.

It's okay to be wrong, just know that you are here.

You realize that Beckett published reported sales of rare cards such as:
-Masterpeices
-Gem Masters
-97/98 AS GU Auto /23
-And yes, of course, the mythical PMGs?

Again, this is published record, printed, not fabricated in this century when you probably were a newborn. As I previously stated, go find you a run of those magazines and you will clearly see that based on the reported sales there was plenty of value, even when Bill was pokin' Monika

Value wise? Well, nothing had much value back then. People cared about them, but youre trying to argue they werent pumped or worth huge amounts.

I am curious about this as well. I would be devastated if I spent 10+ years building a set that is un-completable. For example, if for some whacky reason, no Robert Pack PMG Greens made it into packs because of an undocumented/unpublicized factory issue. That would be the worst!

There is absolutely a conflict of interest.

Anyone questioning Nat just hasn't been around long enough or hasn't paid any attention to him at all. Just watch the video, he has a story behind most every card - either how he obtained them or the card's history. He doesn't need to do cards, he just loves cards.

Not that it’s reason to outright crucify him, but it’s still important to remember things like this:

PMG’s were like a unicorn for me back in 1997. I knew they existed and everyone saw the crazy multiplier for the Greens in Beckett. I bought so many packs and never found one. Same for Championship Edition.

I bought my Shareef PMG red back in 2011 and it’s one of my most treasured cards because I remember hunting for them back in the day. I started eBay in 2003 and it was amazing to see all these cards I had never seen before and only dreamed about pulling in packs.

It wasn’t just a pumping thing. The rubies and emeralds were near and dear for a lot of collectors who collected in the 90’s.

He was totally against uncharges in 2019. Probably not against them today.

My comment is nothing personal towards Mr. Turner. I don’t know him, I’m sure he’s an awesome dude and he certainly seems like the kind of collector we all wish we could be.

But it doesn’t matter if it is him, or someone else, there is something slightly disconcerting to me about the implicit conflict of interest presented. I’m not even suggesting he would direct or do anything nefarious… but the thought may always be out there.

In my opinion, being a passionate collector is at the bottom of the list of things that are important to me for the leader of a business like PSA.

As a customer of PSA, I mostly want it headed by someone who is passionate about:

1. Quality
2. Customer Service
3. Transparency

(Note, numbers 1 and 2 are what I value most in all the companies I frequently do business with and are the top priorities, along with safety, of all the companies I’ve had the pleasure of leading or being part of)

Mr Turner being a collector as well is a cool story, but takes a backseat to those other priorities for me

I remember the PMG green being a big deal as far back as the dotcom bubble, and always wondered why the appeal of a non-color-matched card. Must be ridiculous to behold in person for the 7-figure price they must command nowadays

Respect. But bro was born with a swarovski spork in his throat. /nodiddy

And his salvaging of ailing CU stock pales in comparison to his namesake counterpart.

I find my ranked Ledell exploits far more impressive than his compilation of hedge fund slabbed acquisitions.

Got it out the mud.
