Aloha stadium didn’t meet code and needs repairs. Hawaii Warriors played UCLA at their practice field and it looked like a Class B HS stadium.

So, what are the chances that the Rays get to play some games elsewhere next year?

Can they play with a Trop with no roof? Retrofit the Bucs stadium field for baseball? Will it get fixed? Move the Rays temporarily to play in a minor league stadium? In Florida, or Durham? Keep them on the road like when the Kingdom in Seattle had issues?
I imagine they have insurance, so I'd be very surprised if the Trop isn't good to go well before opening day.

Should play in Montreal.

First game I ever saw was there. Oilers/Steelers I wasn't sure if it was 89 or 90 but as I type this I just remembered I was given a Oilers team set of 1990 Fleer so that confirms the year. It was certainly something to see.

Good article on potential Rays options

https://sports.yahoo.com/tropicana-f...204158382.html

Don't know what is up to current MLB requirements, but at least there are options

Just saw there is a 0% chance the Rays play in Tampa with the field have no way to handle rain with there being no roof. Also will cost over $100M to get a new one on and with them building a new stadium in Tampa it would be a waste of money.

So it does sound like they won't be in Tampa until a new stadium is complete

They can just play at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. There's never a real team using it.

Twitter reporting that the Trop will not be ready by Opening Day.

(Saw someone on Twitter say that three things have forced teams to play in Minor League stadiums:
- Global Pandemic
- Natural Disasters
- John Fisher)

Just play all games on the road, it would only effect the actual attendance to home games slightly.

If the Rays didn't play a game next year, would anyone even notice?

I would for sure. The meager collector fanbase for this team makes buying and selling Rays cards a real low risk venture. The payoffs when they perform aren't huge but it's hard to get hurt unless they are upper echelon prospects. That makes it fun for me in the slow lane.

I understand the sentiment though..

Rays should use this as an opportunity to promote rays around the US by playing home games in different cities.
MLB would also benefit from this as they could evaluate potential expansion teams.

Rays could play homes games at Montreal, Charlotte, Puerto Rico, San Antonio, Portland, Sacramento, Las Vegas.

I read that they should use it as an opportunity to see if a team can be in any of those cities for an expansion (or even relocation). But playing multiple home games in various cities would be cool.

That would be rough on the players.

If any of them complain, they can trade places with one of us doing the Baltimore to DC (and back) commute every day for under 6 figures

Think it would be much harder for the hundreds of staff workers.

Also can't imagine getting one stadium up to standards in time for the season, more less multiple stadiums.

Yeah I can't see that happening. Likely they get the stadium in orlando set up if they can't get the trop fixed.

$100M+ cost to repair the roof means no more Tropicana Field! The largest Grapefruit League stadium is Steinbrenner Field (11k+ capacity), which happens to be in Tampa proper! Rays could actually call the city of Tampa home...until 2028.
For certain marquee matchup series and potential playoffs, they can play at LoanDepot (assuming no scheduling conflicts). I really doubt the Marlins and Rays will both make the playoffs playing enough home games to cause a conflict lol

There’s no baseball stadium in Orlando. The Citrus Bowl (Camping World Stadium) is a football only stadium and would require massive renovations to make work for Major League Baseball.

The Blue Jays played half their home schedule in Dunedin a few years back, I don’t see why the Rays can’t do the same. For those unsure of Florida geography, Dunedin is less than an hour north of Tampa/St Pete.

The stadium at Disney is empty, wouldn't have to kick anyone out to play there...
