I always thought that my responsibility was to get it to the forwarding location....once it was delivered there I was not responsible for loss or damage after that....but since I've never had a problem with them I never had a reason to test it. Even at my advanced age I can still learn new things.

Default SMH Messages on eBay

It’s probably partly because if there is an issue, and say parts are damaged or missing, how can you know it’s not because that happened from the freight forwarder. They basically have possession of the item once it’s delivered to them.

Now in reality I think it’s unlikely an item would be damaged/missing parts due to the forwarder (do they even open them?) over being a result of what the seller sent. It’s more likely the latter I would think. But having that question is enough, that you can’t really know.

eBay could ban them if they wanted by not allowing certain addresses, so I just always assumed even though they didn't like them, they didn't want to cost themselves money by outright banning them. So they just make it against policy to protect their interests in case there is a problem, but look the other way when they are being used.

I do not see them banning any of them. It really is no different than Int. buyers sending a card to their COMC mail box. EBAY is a partners with COMC so the hypocrisy could cause some backlash.

Yes, those are the fun messages. Buyers must think all sellers control how fast items ship and how the items get scanned, etc.

Hey my old and dear friend. Listen this is Joe buddy. I just wanted to message you because I'm not sure if you've heard through the eBay community but in February I was diagnosed with stage 4 liver failure with fibrosis and a cancer nodule on the side of it and they sent me home under hospice care and gave me a time frame of 12 to 18 months which like I said was back in february. And what I'm trying to do my brother is kind of polish off my collection that I've been collecting since I was 7 years old in all three Sports. Along with my dad's collection he left me and then all of the cards that I kept from when I owned my sports store, the man cave. But altogether in all three Sports I probably have around 20 to 25,000 cards. And I'm trying my best to use my same and favorite sellers and stay loyal to them to finish this with. Which of course you are one of. Because I'm going to leave my collection to my 10-year-old son in hopes that when he graduates it should pay for his college. And pretty much my brother like I said what I'm trying to do it's just polish It off with graded cards and build that section of it up more especially with players he wouldn't know to get if they're fairly new or players before his time. And I put this card on my watch list which there will be more orders coming from me as I'm trying to really hurry to get this done. But it is on my watch list and I just wanted to ask you if you could send me the best offer you could possibly do on it. If you could just send me an offer with an except but not on the best you could do.?? Because I'm going to use you guys my best and stay loyal and finish this together. Please message me back and let me know you received this bub. I hope you're doing well and you take care of yourself. And as always may God bless you and your family. Sincerely, Joe.

It's a $24.99 card and I've never heard of this person before LOL.

To qualify for Hospice it’s 6 months or less to live. Not 12 to 18 months

My father was on hospice care for over 5 years....his doctor kept authorizing the 6 month care....so while I don't think it is happening in this case, it can happen.

So here is one. Buyer purchased item the 12th, several minutes later filed for a cancellation, with a nose saying if it measures 16 1/2 x18 11/16" its the one I need and I'll just repurchase.

I measured and it has the same measurements so I messaged them. Waited and nothing to I just cancelled it to save them from having to repurchase. I get a huge message calling belittling me a bit and they claimed to need a totally different item now instead of the one I have. I simply refunded them since I couldn't cancel and I then block.

A few minutes ago another id, from the same city, but with a different name, phone number slightly different address and different account bought the same item. Both addresses are a freight forwarding company. I want to cancel and block since to me its obviously the same person but not sure I can.

Doing anything for these type of buyers is a waste of time and often opens you up to further issues, like what appears to have happened here. I would have just accepted cancel, and blocked and not wasted time with a message.

Anymore, I have zero tolerance for any red flags. Immediate block. There are millions of buyers out there and sellers shouldn't go above and beyond to make any deal reach completion. The ones you try hardest on are often the ones that backfire the loudest. Blockity Block Block Block.

Agree, but Ebay blocking is a bit flawed unfortunately. It’s so easy for buyers to circumvent it with multiple accounts or buy with a guest account if that’s still a thing. Just noticed it the other day. I had a question about can I provide extra close-up pics of the card, clearly a grade seeker..I blocked….then got another question about the same thing on the same item from a buyer in same town.

I bet a decent number of people have multiple accounts anymore. And blocking them on one account could really tick them off to really pull shenanigans from the other account. It’s ridiculous this has to even go through my mind when blocking, but it does now.

I agree, but I try to weight the pros and cons. A douche will be a douche regardless. But I feel like engaging in any way encourages extra douchiness. The chances for crazy things to happen are much lower if you block and never respond to anything. Most of them need fuel. If they never got a response from anyone or a rise out of anyone they would move on to something else.

Thats the truth, although sometimes they do need to be called out here. Having a good board to discuss our hobby and sport topics isn't exactly the same as random strangers sending crazy messages on ebay. If we completely ignored them on here they would just feed off of each other and ruin what is left here. So many good people have left here because of the cancers that still exist within these boards. Gotta fight on hang on to what is left. Although I do find myself posting less and less because it gets exhausting at times.

What you’re saying is true. Of course I do think the mere act of blocking is the fuel for some of these people.

That being said….if you do see something too coincidental, check into it with ebay. If you block a buyer inquiring about a listing then another buyer buys the item shortly after and from the same city- might be worth calling eBay. There was one case years ago I blocked a buyer- then item was bought from buyer in same random small city- I called ebay, they somehow confirmed it was the same person as the one I blocked, and let me get out of the transaction without any dings or negs. Of course both accounts to this day are still active (ebay doesn’t even ban for literally circumventing a block I guess).

It wasn't an out of line question for the item and fairly normal one (though annoying) I did cancel the second attempt to purchase it. I contacted ebay on facebook and after doing an investigation they told me to go ahead and select buyer requested and just cancel and refund. Normally anytime I get any message I immediately check feedback left, if I don't like it I block.

Seems like issues are popping up quiet frequently these days. Loose ebay policies and hard economic times are a bad combo. Also ebay now removing the ability to withhold shipping costs for false INAD cases when reported are really starting to hurt as well since I sell larger/heavier items.
