I would buy the hitting version of this card. I think it has a print run of 72 and is super underrated and under priced in my opinion. There are 5 variants. ROTY1-5. ROTY5 is the hitting version.

Novelties as opposed to? We're buying cardboard and plastic here lol.. Obviously some of the cardboard is worth more than others, but these are all novelties.

I think you are right about tradition baseball card collectors, especially in the short term.

But I think Ohtani's market is going to be much broader including non-traditional collectors and collectors from other sports.

I think the low print run Topps on demand and Topps TBT RC cards are going to have a lot of demand in the future. Maybe even low print run topps now RC cards will be more desirable in the future.

I think Ohtani collectors are going to also collect panini RC cards to a much larger degree too!

Sean, I think we're in the midst of a market high. Nothing appreciates linearly long term and it has been pretty damn linear the last 6 weeks. I surely think some (key word) of these gains will stick, but you would have to be very crafty to find value and if you think that's Topps Now, maybe it's not a bad idea.

Completely agree!!! I am seeing market highs on a ton of low and mid end Ohtani RC cards. I am not really seeing to many deals right now. I have bought a few cards recently that I think are still under priced...but its a crazy market right now.

I assume low end base RC's and PSA10 base RC will take at least a 20% hair cut in the off season....maybe more. I get the feeling low and medium end SP, SSP, and numbered cards might only take a 10% dip in the off season.

As you said it really depends on how Ohtani and the Dodgers perform during the playoffs. If Dodger win the WS I could see some crazy new highs across the board!

Would love a title this year, but someone is going to need to pull a Bumgarner with that rotation. I welcome the idea but also acknowledge it's less than likely.

The rest of my card budget for 2024 is getting blown out on tickets. I can't pass up the opportunity for a Dodgers/Yankees WS matchup.

I couldn't find value on anything MLB rookie I wanted so instead I just overpaid a bit on some non-2013 NBP cards. I just HAD to do some Ohtani shopping in honor of 50/50. I don't think the overpay was as rough as buying 2018 MLB stuff though so I maybe saved myself a few bucks.

I've asked this before and I don't know if anyone knows but the Memorabilia cards from his Japan issued sets, are they game used? Nowhere on the card does it state game used but I was curious if someone familar with the set knows more
