Madueke accidentally posting that Wolverhampton is s*** on IG and then scoring a hat trick on their turf was pretty funny.

Not too sure what to make of Maresca yet. Despite the loss to City, they actually played really well. The forwards seem to be figuring it out. Cole Palmer is incredible.

But without Lavia in midfield, Enzo-Caicedo aint it. The balance is all wrong. They need someone else at the base of that.

Keeper is still an absolute liability too.

Newcastle get drawn away for their 8th consecutive cup match, at League Two AFC Wimbledon in the 3rd Round of the Carabao Cup.

I wonder if anybody has gotten that many consecutive away cup draws before?

Odds are 256:1 against that happening....

Leeds have been drawn away something like 30 times in 35 cup draws.

We went on a run of being drawn away 13 times in a row.

I think the Swiss format might actual turn out to work well, since teams will always be competing to move up in the standings (unlike in the past when teams have taken their foot off the pedal once they clinch a spot in the knockouts).

But the addition of four matchdays is nothing but a hideous money-grab for the TV networks.

You could still have a 6-game schedule by dividing the 36 teams into 3 pots of 12 (instead of 4 pots of 9), and there's no need for the 8-16 vs 17-24 playoff round.

Second yellow to Declan Rice was horrible. He is walking away and Veltman rolls the ball into the back of his legs. In what is sure to be a closely contested race all season, clueless refereeing like this is going to make the difference. I’m a neutral, but what a shame.

Mbappe seems to be really struggling with the move to a proper league.

Haaland just banged in his second hat-trick in two games.

It's calls like these that I envy other sports where coaches allowed to challenge a call because that was one of the worst I have ever seen, and the fact that VAR only reviews straight reds and not 2nd yellow's is absurd.

Cost us the game.

Absolutely ridiculous call, was the least offense of every version of the delaying restart action that happened in that match. In a league where it comes down to 1-2 points that could be a title deciding decision 3rd week into the season. Absolutely insane. PGMOL is a joke.

Absolutely scandalous. Cheating prevails. Screw the honest clubs, just cheat.

Lol Arsenal are going to benefit more from refs this year than they'll have decisions against them. It was an awful one no doubt but lets keep our feet on the ground here.

Lavia too. Arguably their two most important players. Can reactivate for the knockouts.

900 goals for Ronaldo is an insane number. Cant stand the guy but that's some achievement.

Chelsea

Chelsea's co-owners are looking to buy each other out amid a rift at board level.

Chairman Todd Boehly and majority owners Clearlake Capital are both prepared to take full control of the club.

Boehly has gradually lost power despite being named co-controlling owner after the club's purchase from Roman Abramovich for £2.5bn in July 2022, with Clearlake - which owns a 61.5% stake - in primary control at Stamford Bridge.

Clearlake co-founder Behdad Eghbali has become the most hands-on figure within the ownership group since Boehly stepped down as interim sporting director in January 2023.

Multiple figures in the senior hierarchy now recognise there is a rift between two main blocs - Clearlake and the group allied to Boehly, including billionaire partners Hansjorg Wyss and Mark Walter, which owns the other 38.5% of the club.

Any rift has previously been denied by sources at the club.

based on what reports are out there, it seems like Boehly wants the sporting people to do their job, and Eghbali wants all the control. If that's the case and they do have the power, Chelsea are screwed. He doesnt have a clue.

Wish these modern day owners would sign the cheques and keep their mouths shut

to reiterate what was said before, this is a league title that could come down to ONE game.

So yes, it an game that we were winning and were always expected to win, these are not points you can drop.

Not only that he is also suspended for the game against Spuds, so this bad call is effecting TWO games...

If the title comes down to as close it was last year, this will be a pinitol moment, and only 3 games in the season, atrocious.

And on another note... Odegaard is out with an ankle injury, doesn't look good and we have NOBODY to step in for him.

Referee Chris Kavanagh was right to send Declan Rice off in Arsenal's draw with Brighton, the Key Match Incidents panel has ruled.

The board - which reviews the big refereeing decisions in the Premier League each week - agreed the midfielder should have been dismissed. Rice, who was already on a booking, nudged the ball away from Joel Veltman as he prepared to take a free-kick in the 49th minute of Arsenal's 1-1 draw with Brighton last weekend. It was the first red card of the England star's career, with the panel agreeing his actions were "clear, deliberate and impactful" and a second yellow card was correct.

The panel, which unanimously backed the decision, wrote: "Rice knows what he's doing - it's a gentle touch, but once the referee sees it he has no choice."

---

While we all love a good moan about referees, perhaps clubs could be playing more of a role in reducing the amount of cheating and unsportsmanlike conduct from their employees.

Agreed.

When I first saw the incident, that was basically my reaction. Is it ticky-tacky, yes. Did he do it, yes. Both these things can be true at the same time. He did it right in front of the ref's face and should not have been surprised by the booking.

I would love to see less flopping and more punishment for obvious flops. Everyone trying to get a leg up on favors from the ref's has gone to far and it detracts from the integrity of the game.
