It's very frustrating as someone who likes the gamble and understands I can get skunked sometimes, but at least get some visually appealing cards of some star players.

I've pretty much stopped buying any sets that include a retail element, and will probably just rip Finest, Pristine, and Bowman's Best this season.

and I get this, but I feel like Topps flagship should be left alone.

Like others have said, the good thing is that no matter what, they can't inflate the singles market so that's where I'll live.

Was able to hit eBay and secure all major (IMO) rookies from TC for ~$75. Feels way better than buying 2 blasters.

They try with MVP buybacks-I just have to wait another year to get those Judge base cards for less than $10-15

I sense the tide is turning in this direction.

Dealers are telling me wax sales have slowed significantly and singles sales are quite brisk.

That’s what happens when it gets more painful to open wax - people with self discipline stop doing it.

Fanatics caters towards the breaker culture/degenerates because that is where the money is coming from for sealed product.

The good thing is that the big breakers tend to avoid flagship and fanatics makes enough of it to keep prices lower with room to discount.

Pristine just dropped for pre-order at $400 plus tax...Is it really even gambling anymore when you need to pull a superfractor to even start thinking about making your money back? Most supers out of the product won't even make the money back on the box! Go on ebay and look at singles prices of 2022-2023 pristine..I seriously don't understand where they get their values for box prices these days anymore. I believe 2022 was $300 and 2023 was $350, I guess naturally progression says it SHOULD be $400 this year, and that's certainly what topps is going with even though the singles prices don't even come close to backing up that price. I hope you skip Pristine.

Breakers only need to get $15-$20 per random team for fanatics to sustain that price.

It’s the primary reason why initial wax pricing is the way it is today. It’s easier for 30 people to stomach an average loss of $12 per person per box opened than one person losing $300 on a box opened, even though 30 guys losing an average of 80% on their break is worse than one guy losing 67% on his own box break.

I understand, I was just explaining how Topps gets their value for initial box prices nowadays.

They always sell to the highest bidders - the breakers.

I'm torn with Pristine. I love it. Its a fun break. The cards are really nice. But I just can't do it at $400 plus tax, given the current state of singles and prices. Would a Judge auto even cover box cost, for example? Its pretty much Elly or Ohtani or bust, right?

How a person looks throwing a baseball says a lot about their trustworthiness (for example ww2 hand grenades were built to spec like baseballs).

I understand it's a losing propostion 90% of the time. Personally, I'd rather spend that money on Pristine than a Chrome Jumbo. I like the exclusiveness of being hobby only and have always really liked the design.

Your math is correct, but that's based on a single box break. Fanatics doesn't even care about the little guy that is breaking 1 or 2 boxes. They care about the guys that are breaking cases at a time. So multiply those team prices by 10 or 12 or however many come in a case. It's absurd.

I'm simply shocked by how many people are still getting into breaks. It's totally bonkers.

The man might as well chop off his arms so he never makes the mistake of throwing a ball in front of anyone ever again. If he has a muscular disorder then I take back what I said.
