Ripped 2 retail boxes.

Hit the following:

4 x Red Velocity /299
1 x auto
1 x checkerboard

I ripped a few retail boxes, they also seem pretty formulaic, someone else let me know if they see anything different

60 base
12 Rookies
6 Purple
6 Holo
9-10 inserts
2-3 #'d or auto

Since the MSRP is in exact multiples of each other, we should have a direct value comparison (4 blasters = 2 megas = 1 retail box)

1x Retail:
12 RC
6 Holo
6 Purple
10 inserts
2 #'d

2x Megas:
14 RC
6 Holo
28 Purple Shock or Pink Hyper
22 inserts
somewhere between .5 and 1 "hit"

4x Blasters:
18 RC
7 Holo
7 Purple
14 inserts
~1 "hit" (#'d or checkerboard or auto)


I feel pretty confident in the Retail and Mega information since I noted the patterns, but only opened a couple blasters personally and the information in this thread was mainly focused on "hits", but should be in the ballpark for comparison's sake.

So looking at these side by side, I think it's pretty easy to see that Megas have the highest floor by a landslide. 34 base parallels and 22 inserts is a crazy amount of value, but the ceiling is also the lowest because they might have the worst hit rate and the #'d don't have any SSPs on the table. Retail and Blasters are pretty close in terms of floor, with Blasters having a slight edge, but personally I'd go for the 2 red /299 and a chance at Black 1/1 over the worse hit rate, with upside for Glitters and #'d inserts.

So the Premium set comes out today and to me the exclusive sucks. A rated rookie auto when most of the top guys of the class didn't egen sign. At least the Hoops set had vets. I'm sure due to Wemby it will sell out high still

it sold out at either $1125 or a couple people may have got in at the next drop. I bought a couple in the $11-1200 range and had the window open but couldn't cart it at the $1062 level

I would have liked to get one or two of these, but I was hoping it would get down to around the $800-900 level.

I mean, the Wemby itself is worth like $500-600. Other years with no huge rookies sell for $600-800. I understand wanting to pay what you can pay, but you also have to understand the actual value of the product.

Panini could have replaced the autographs with a 1/1 card per box and the sets would have sold out instantly at $2000 each. But why make an extra give or take $200k and spend less money to make the sets? Obviously you'd rather spend more money and make less. Panini 101.

There is no chase card in these. There are zero cards worth more than the box sold out at. If the Wemby doesn't get you half back you have what a 5-7% chance of pulling one of the /3 autos that maybe covers half the box? Besides for maybe the Wemby, is there a single auto not /3 that will be over $500? A Banchero auto /10 as a PSA 10 sold days ago for $1025. There is no card in these boxes worth more than that.

No, you're totally right. I was just thinking broad perception that it wouldn't get hit at $1k. But I guess at the same time, no casuals are buying this product. And there's 250 total boxes, so it'll go quick.

I did really well with my Hoops Premium box set earlier this year, so I imagine this will do pretty well. When you break it down, it's definitely well worth the $1000-1100 range. I just didn't have the time today to dig in and pay enough attention. That's on me.

no worries, and I didn't really put much thought into it either, just kind of tried to estimate the value of the Wemby and top 5-ish rookies and went from there. I ultimately didn't even use the auto as a consideration

Super conservative estimates in broad strokes:
Wemby $5-600, call it $550
Miller $50-75
Other decent Rookies (Podz, Whitmore, Scoot, Keyonte, Lively, etc) $150
40ish other rookies $100
Top 10 vets @$5 $50
190ish other vets @$1 $200
Auto @$100

That's $1200, and I think the numbers I tossed out above were probably super conservative and don't consider grading upside. I don't necessarily like the work involved in piecing everything out, but it's worth the possible upside when you consider grading or guys like Whitmore or Keyonte getting a huge preseason bump

I guess I agree with the 1/1 instead of the auto, but it's never been a thing so I don't know why it's even a hypothetical comparison.

And of course there isn't a chase, or a card that will pay for the box by itself. If there was, they would have sold out for higher.

For someone whose sole source of income seems to be from buying directly from the Panini & Topps sites and flipping to people who actually work during the day, you sure complain about their products and pricing a lot.

There were ~12 megas of this and who knows how many blasters (30?) at my local Target 2 days ago, and they are gone today. All the other retail stuff that was there still is there. So this is definitely selling.

Hits do seem to be rarer than other optic retail versions. Maybe 1/5-7?

At least all numbered less than 50.

For the other velocities black and pink/79 (same color?) in hobby, red in retail 24 packs?

Maybe hangers are basic pink and hobby velocity pink?

Got my Premium sets in today. Quality overall looks pretty good, I don’t know why but the edges and corners on these are always really sharp.

Did about as well as I could possibly ask for on the autos, especially as a Warriors & Thunder fan. Gold Podz might actually be the best auto pull possible?
