Pirates are 4 GB of the wild-card at present. I think most of us doubt they're contenders in August, but let's not ignore the fact that Skenes is selling tickets at PNC which is something that hasn't happened in ages.

Look for Skenes to get 150 IP and win ROY. Anything less than that will be an insult to him and a black-eye on an already damaged organization.
With the loss of Jones for a while and maybe Falter, think they are pretenders right now. Love to see Buctober baseball but also hoping they don't feel the pressure to trade the young pitching prospects just to satisfy the fans wanting a big trade. We know what happened the last time they did that.

There are a lot of people with the thought/opinion that TJ is inevitable for someone who throws as hard as he does. I’m not saying that’s true - but if it is, wouldn’t it be better to get let him pitch as long as he is able, and then get the surgery sooner?

Let’s be honest, neither do they.

150 combined and he threw 27 in the minors.

Much of what I have been seeing this year from the Buccos, they should absolutely shut him down. This team is going nowhere as currently constructed. Doesn't matter much how good the starting pitching has been (or will continue to be), the bullpen can't stop any team from scoring in the late innings. And, scoring as little runs as they do consistently, they have little hope of reaching .500 (let alone being a playoff team). Get rid of Chapman! Dude has been nothing but unimpressive and wild most of the year. Get some younger arms for the bullpen and look forward to 2025. Get rid of C. Holderman, as well! This team is the most frustrating team to root for!

If you are basing them shutting him down on they are going no place, they dude will be shut down every season.

Hopefully Skenes can get out of Pittsburgh quick.

Every team shuts down pitchers every year. Especially pitchers who are rookies and have never thrown more than 130 innings in a year.

This would've happen no matter what team he was on.

There's no reason to shut him down. Manage his starts yes but best way for him to get better is to pitch. He's been really good but despite all the hype, he's struggled with control and putting batters away. Lot of foul balls lately with two strikes. And no reason to get rid of Holderman - been there best reliever until the last few games. Life of a bullpen pitcher. Borucki and Bednar get back healthly and the pen is ok. Going to have to ride out Chapman if they can't trade him bc no way Pirates are eating $10 million.

9 K's through 4 innings so far today...

Too bad they can't score for him.

Probably at 100 pitches after the 6th here, so unfortunately he probably wont get a chance at it.

99 pitches. That's gotta be it for him.

Amazing work.
