As usual I'm talking about something I know nothing about.

I just know Nesmith was one of his main practice sparring partners back in the day, and they both fire.

Of the 4, Brown furthest from lock because young guys can have more go wrong that changes the story of their career.

Tatum is close to a lock. The rest are current long shots, a lot has to happen in the next 2-3 years for them to be locks.

I think Jrue has more of a case than Horford. Instrumental in two titles, one of the premier defensive guards of his generation, and I wouldn't underrate him winning Teammate of the Year three times.

Hmm, I don’t think the next few years are likely to significantly damage the case of Horford or Holiday, so that’s a place where I think we must just be looking at different things.

The base foundation of Horford’s case comes from the back-to-back college championships. If you weren’t factoring that in, well, it’s significant. No one nowadays will get in just on the basis of college, but that Florida Gator team was THE team of that era of college ball, and so Hall voters were always likely to smile upon one of those Gators who had a great pro arc. I expect Horford to receive that smile.

For Holiday, I suppose I’d point to what contending teams have given up for him and how much they paid him. It surely seems far out of alignment from his lesser box score production and all-star accolades.

I would say that the box score does a terrible job of capturing the impact of a player like Holiday in general. We’re talking about the guy seen as the clear cut best man defender of his generation with his signature being what he has done to offensive stars in the playoffs.

Prior to this season I did not see him as anything close to a lock, because if the Bucks had taken the league by storm and the Celtics had struggled, Jrue likely disappears from the story of the Buck chips.

But now there’s a narrative throughline that bolsters this extremely well-liked guy who can also claim to have been the model for a type of player central to tbis era (switchable shut down defender, off-ball scorer who can also facilitate).

Remember that Michael Cooper is in the Hall. I think Jrue will have a easier time of it than Coop did

How does everyone feel about Derrick Rose? I personally value a player’s peak very highly

You are right about Al. I had completely forgot about the Florida era. I won't say he's a lock but definitively not a long shot.

Jrue story is different. Coop was part of a dynasty, so that's what put him in. Jrue will need a few more titles and All-Defense teams, he has a few years to do it but he's far from a lock right now.

If Grant Hill is in the HOF ... why isn't Penny Hardaway? both had short prime but peak-wise is legit all-time level

But we are in an inter-dynasty era. Given parity, one current title equals two or three previous. That Jrue did it as an essential component of two teams in three years. Wow.

One man don't make a dynasty.

Parity may make them impossible. Everyone but the tentpole gets traded anyway. So we gotta go with what we got.
