Better start taking down those plaques. Turf Larry Walker and any other Canadian elected to the hall while we’re at it.

Todd Van Poppels HS career was legendary, should he be in the HOF?

They played a majority of their games in the US so trump card played.

He never struck out Babe, ShoTime or Trout, so no.

But he probably could have hit 500 homers in Japan league so maybe?

Tough choices.

Japan has their own hall of fame. The Negro Leagues were domestic to the United States which makes the Hall of Fame located in the United States a good place to recognize them.
So how did Josh Gibson get in since he played zero MLB seasons

It really isn't that complicated.

I get Japan is next on the slippery slope fallacy but it really isn't that complicated to see the difference.

Whoa whoa whoa. You think the BNBs could beat Benny and the Sandlot Jets?

I don't even think they can beat the Kekambas.

And I'm just talking about fictional little league teams.

Pitch around Kelly Leak and eventually you'll wear out Amanda's arm. I don't trust anyone in the Bears' bullpen to get Hamilton Porter out.

Jets all day.

Okay. I haven't been before. If that's the case, I'm fine leaving him out as an individual. I think these guys should be mentioned in some form or fashion.

But I'd definitely give him a plaque before someone like Rose.

Must-read article I found on this subject:

Quote:
The Negro Leagues struck a careful balance between offense and defense, and, on the whole, I suspect the game checks in around AAA level. Inside the leagues themselves, the totality of the hitting talent won’t be MLB but a notch lower. The totality of the pitching talent won’t be AA but a notch higher. The rules for pitchers and pitching kept the hitters from running away with things. Had segregation never occurred, Black pitchers would likely have developed the same way that more populous white pitchers would have. They didn’t because conditions, rules, and probably conventional wisdom in the leagues they did play in favored a different style of pitching. Therefore, I’m going to rate both hitters and pitchers at AAA level, at least from 1920–1948.

Sadaharu Oh had a 199 wRC+ and 180.4 WAR during his career (1959-1980): http://npbstats.com/players/db/batti..._search=101746

That means that if you considered NPB minor league caliber during that time, you're still looking at an MLB Hall of Famer.

Here's his numbers against MLB pitchers:

Quote:
Oh played 110 exhibition games against major leaguers in official major league tours of Japan, usually in October or November. He had 338 at-bats and hit for a .260 average with 88 walks for a .413 on-base percentage. He also slugged 14 doubles and 25 homers among his hits, for a .524 slugging average.

The pitchers (and the year) Oh hit his homers against (lefties are denoted with an asterisk[*], and if a pitcher gave up multiple homers to Oh, the number appears in parentheses) were as follows: Hank Aguirre,* 1962; Nick Willhite,* 1966 (2); Alan Foster, 1966; Joe Moeller, 1966; Jim Brewer,* 1966; Steve Carlton,* 1968; Dick Hughes, 1968; Nelson Briles, 1968; Ray Washburn, 1968; Larry Jaster,* 1968; Wayne Granger, 1968; Frank Reberger, 1970; Frank Linzy, 1970; Pat Dobson, 1971; Jim Palmer, 1971; Dick Hall, 1971; Jerry Cram, 1974 (2); Jerry Koosman,* 1974; John Matlack,* 1974 (3); Tom Seaver, 1978; and Tom Hume, 1978. Further, Oh was pulling even this group of pitchers: 4 to left, 1 to left center, 3 to center, 5 to right center, and 12 to right.
https://sabr.org/journal/article/sho...n-cooperstown/

I say let him in.
