Default Any Scorekeepers Here?

Anyone go to ball games and keep tabs with score cards? Just randomly thought about scorekeepers today and remembered always seeing a guy or two using score cards while watching the game as a kid.

Anyone do it and if so, what's the reasoning behind it? Personal collection?

I used to do it as a kid in the 80s but eventually got away from it. My father always bought me a copy of the program and there was a scorecard in it so I did. I thought it was fun but it was also in an era where you didn't have all the jumbotrons and other signage in parks that are displaying all the game info you need.

Not anymore, since I have 4 kids to corral...but I do it for Little League when needed. Sometimes "the book" or Gamechanger, which can be challenging to get right when kids are running all over, multiple errors on one play, kids running past the base, etc

Every year I drop the $1 to get a stand alone scorecard for my collection of them for the Giants (I don't think I did last year to be honest, but i've been keeping score for a good 15 years or so now, and for a while, they were all done on those $1 scorecards). I do have actual scorekeeper books i use when at games now. It's got a spiral notebook-esque spine and has hard covers. I do love the book I use.

It's a fun way to keep my self involved with the game and then have a record I can go back to look at and see what memories pop up.

This is exactly why I enjoy doing it myself. I love looking back at games I have attended and see exactly what each player did that game.

Guy behind me at T-Mobile was keeping score yesterday.

Had a horizontal clipboard and everything.

I have been wanting to score a game, haven’t done it in a long time. But, would prefer to do it in a “key” game and my favorite team just never plays any of those so motivation can be a bit lacking for me.

Is there a free template on the ‘net somewhere, that I could print out?

I always keep score when I watch in person. I find that it keeps me tuned in and I enjoy being able to look back and see the game at a glance. I use the $1 scorecard from the park.

I also keep score when I watch at home if it’s a playoff game. Those are really the only games that I watch start to finish anymore. I use one of the spiral bound scorecard notebooks.

Haven't been to a game since 2013, but it was a work outing with a box at Comerica Park, Angels v. Tigers. I was the only one outside the box the whole game (minus when Dan Petry showed up and autographed the card), and have my scorecard from that.

I can look at that card with 3 1st ballot HOFers on it (Trout, Pujols, Cabrera), a former MVP (Hamilton), someone who should be in the HOF (Hunter) and AS MVP (Fielder) and rember it fondly. My guess, based on the bus ride back, may of my colleagues don't even remember being there.

I believe the first Tigers game we went to was in 74. We went to a half dozen together and would attempt to keep track in order remember the game. We would also take the sports page the next day and attach it into the program. There was no internet and about the only reference to a specific game that we attended could only be attained at a library through microfiche. Al Kaline, Bill Freehan, Mickey Lolich, Willie Horton, Mickey Stanley, many of the 68 World Series players were still on the team.

You are forgetting some HOF pitchers though they may not have played, Verlander and Scherzer should be HOF’ers. Both managers had won World Series, Leyland and Scioscia. I believe another Cy Young winner in Rick Porcello. That game had a wealth of talent.

I did it a few times as a kid but either a bathroom break or eating some food would ruin it about halfway through the game.

Weaver and Fister were the starters. Angel Hernandez was at 3B

I pull out the ESPN app and go to play by play and fill in what I missed when that happens. And now with the pitch clock, going to the stand right behind your seat, getting a hot dog and being back in 10 minutes and you've lost possibly a whole inning if they're humming.

I've always wanted to give it a go, but still haven't. I will definitely try to grab a scorecard when we take our daughter to her first game later this year.

My dad and I would take turns keeping score when we went to games but that ended around the time I hit my teenage years. Haven’t done it since.
