I would understand the butthurt that Star fanatics have if the card was truly undervalued/underrated.

But the fact that the card is properly rated and priced makes me wonder why the constant desperate attempts to get the sheep in the Star paddock so to speak.

Insecurity at its finest.

Hell I purchased an 03 Exquisite base MJ instead of a Fleer RC for the same reason. I think it's a better card at the price.

You don't see me starting threads about it

Kyrie has really impressed me this year. I wasn't a fan at first but he's grown on me. And his humbleness in interviews and talking up Luka is great for the team.

There's a huge financial divide between the 2 cards. That's all it boils down to. Those that can afford the 101 and those who can't. Those who can't are trying to put it down because their life choices haven't worked out the way they hoped they would.

I appreciate your concern for my financial well-being, but I am doing just fine. Thanks.

As I said in my first post on this thread, I have no interest in owning either of these cards. I did used to own a PSA8 Fleer, but I traded it for some rarer / cooler cards.

I collect cards that I like. I do not like Star cards. My opinion on Star cards has nothing to do with their cost. I do not like them. Primarily because of their crap quality. Have you ever held a Star card? I don't even feel right calling them cards. How "cards" made in the 80's can be printed on worse quality stock than T206 cards is beyond me.

If I was going to spend $925,000 on a card, the Star wouldn't be anywhere near my list.

Not everyone bases their card buying on what other people tell them will be worth the most money. That's cool that you started investing in cards in 2020 after learning about Geoff Wilson. But that's not me.

Don't mind him. He has been trying to pump this card and his PSA 5 Brady forever. Whenever someone points out facts to him, he resorts to 5th grade insults and implies that people can't afford them. To be honest, I've never met anyone with a substantial amount of money that has ever ridiculed another person's financial status.

If Star Jordan was so great, Im sure BGS 9.5 and BGS 9.0 copies were setting value records 2-3 years ago. Well, before PSA started grading these. Perhaps the premium of the PSA slab is really worth that much more than BGS? Is this simply a matter of the declining confidence in BGS slabs and the ridiculous premium for PSA slabs!?

Water is plenty deep over here sweetheart. Hope you sell this one before it drops all it's value like your PSA 5 Brady. You said that one would be worth well over a million by now right?

No hate. Just pity for people who can only make themselves feel better by putting everyone else down. Thanks but I doubt I could be any happier right now. Life is great. I appreciate the thought though.

Yes def some truth to this

Biggest difference is that if card sells high the card all of a sudden has "that relevance" although I always felt Star cards were important because they were the only licenced NBA cards of the most important NBA rookie class of all time at the time of their actual true rookie seasons

Besides rarity aesthetics etc I think that's historically very important

I love 90s MJ inserts and parallels but long term is the Star more important historically? Very likely

Also because 90s MJs have a cult following where as for simplification reasons newer MJ collectors now seem to desire the Star 101 as the new long term MJ card to hold

I love all MJ cards but just a trend I'm noticing on behalf of newer MJ collectors as opposed to those who collected back in the 90s like myself

I had the Bulls team set from Star in hand by March 1985. Sent directly from them to my address. When did the 86 Fleer hit the market.. Oh, that’s right September 86 . About a year and a half later.

To me, it’s just too sus how a subset of Star collectors, including some on this forum, are really pumping the Star version as the one to get. I wouldn’t be surprised that most of the individuals really talking up the importance of the Star, are doing so mainly for ulterior motives. Again my opinion but all this pumping and hype really makes me squint my eyes…
Not even close. I was a card collector starting in 79 and the Star release was exciting after a period of no basketball cards. And you had the 18 month gap until fleer came out so 101 was THE Jordan rookie during that period as it was his only RC card to exist.

It was exciting to see the fleer cards get released in 86 however, those didn’t feel like rookie cards after that time gap. The star cards felt much more so.

If we could have ordered the Jordan single in quantities directly from Fleer back in 1986, it wouldn't be so popular today, either.

it's all supply+demand, and demand is based on proximity to rookie-ness and aesthetics. so how would what you're talking about affect either of these key factors?

relatedly, imagine the photo from the 57 on the 101, it would be the most iconic card in the hobby for sure

I don't see how anyone would care how a card was first distributed, once it's distributed the cards are in circulation to trade among clecters, that's all you need. Big initial buyers of 84S material might very well have made out like bandits (only after years for the market to develop, organically like any other product e.g. Fleer), good for them
