It is funny that Starboy is mentioning my PMG Red private sale. I sold my BGS 8 through Goldin private sales for less than that what a BGS 8 sold for at Heritage auction. I did not create a fake high sale and subsequent sales have been higher than my private sale so far. He is butthurt from his "90s PMG Pumped To Ad Nauseam On Social Media" thread, which he created with me in his mind but it backfired because he was called out by others for his hypocrisy. as a MJ pumperboi I'd like to recommend the '95 Silver Spotlight which really pops in person, it might just be the #1 MJ card on aesthetics. Like the 86F it's not a RC so it too has a bunch of room to grow

arguably the Silver Spotlight works better as-is with him in the white jersey, than the more usual red jersey we see on MJ cards. It would be nice to have a red-jersey variation or parallel to really compare

being a convert to the 94 SP Championship Playoff Heroes MJ, I think I'll be pumping that as well going forward

The thread was actually created as I noticed the same groupthink that purchased them after the Nat sale kept buying their own cards with auction buddies club network to drive up comps over a 4 year span just to eventually dump them to the next bag holders

Most weren't collected, they were specifically cornered and kept getting recycled between owners to create strings of bogus high comps and then brag how great PMGs are on social media. Lol

What's hilarious is that most of these new PMG owners mysteriously sold them off in private sales like the Star PSA 9 sale you have questioned

I actually think questioning and researching sales history is how we keep it real in this hobby full of scammers

I have no horse in that race as I actually don't like PMGs and sold off my semistars as they just represent cult hype imo

PMG look cool as the cards seem to glow under certain lighting but I also think they're overrated. And I'd much rather have a red (color match!) and save all that money over having a green.

Also so many of these PMGs have been doctored, altered, trimmed, copied, etc...I would be hesitant to pull the trigger on them.

But imagine if the red/greens were flipped and the reds were /10...

I used to own one (MJ 97 PMG Red BGS 8). It's one of the most beautiful inserts in hand in my opinion. I like it because the image of MJ dunking with his trailing shadows pops up nicely in a red foil background and also the way it shines/glows in light. If it is overrated/overpriced, then so are the high grade MJ 86F/Star 101 and other rare MJ 90's inserts such as the 97 UD GU Jersey Auto, Credentials Future, 98 Molten Metal Fusion Titanium, Star Rubies etc., in my opinion. I sold my MJ PMG Red BGS 8, Jambalaya BGS 9.5, Ultra Stars Gold BGS 9.5 and bought MJ 86F Auto PSA 8/9, 1985 Nike Promo Auto BGS 9.5 and 97 UD GU Jersey Auto (Flight School) BGS 8.5/10.

EDIT: The 97 PMG Red BGS 8 just ended at ~300K with BP at Goldin.

I don't think PMGs are ugly, but I do think the base cards beat their ass out behind the woodshed looks-wise. If PMGs, playmaker theater, voltage 500, showcase legacy, 24kt, raise the roof, or a host of other 90s inserts or parallels were all on a table for a given player, all of them were magically worth 10 dollars and would only ever be worth the same as the others I don't think there's a scenario where I would choose the PMG in all honesty.
