People afraid he's peaked and will go on a Trout like trajectory.

Don’t think he will go the way of Trout but a 40/70 year is a hard follow! And a 40/70 didn’t move the needle all that much on Acuna cards. Steady to slightly up when most, outside a few, fell quite a bit. So a slow start might lead to a downfall in prices. Might not be the worst to sell and lock in solid gains

Aside from Ozuna, the team as a whole has not hit their stride yet. Might this last the entire season, who knows...but I would say no....the team and Ronnie are too talented to. It's a burden, but Ronnie is the star of the team. Once he gets going, it will be contagious for the rest of the squad. The long season ebbs and flows...those that got off to fast early start will fall back a bit eventually...and those that are still lagging will pick up the pace. Over the course of the long season (less than 25% into the season to date), the averages balance out. This is not the NBA...living by game to game stats. That's why I love baseball...the LONG season. That's why age also matters...Ronnie only in his age 26 season. One season shortened by covid, one cut in half by in knee injury (he was on pace for 40+ that year with 24 in 82 games) and a season slowed by recovery from the knee. His two full seasons resulted in 41 hrs years. Will he get to 40 this year? Doesn't look good with 2 at the quarter season mark...getting to 40 and beyond is not easy but if anyone can do it again, it would be Ronnie.

Power is way down across the entire league. I wouldn’t worry. But a bad first six weeks does make it tough to put up big numbers for the season.

Nah, mostly cheaper stuff that's not even priced to sell. Prices are all over the place. I was just complaining because it's cluttering up my searches lol
https://www.ebay.com/str/mmstoreandm...mis&media=COPY I know how to exclude a seller from a new search but not sure about blocking a seller entirely so their items don't appear in Saved Searches. Last edited by unreal13; 05-10-2024 at 01:38 PM. |

Agree…But Acuna right now is batting .261 vs last year and is pace to more than double his K’s from last year. I hope he turns it around as he is exciting to watch but it’s a really slow start

I am still buying low to medium RC cards. But if Acuna does not pick it up soon, his prices will likely go down by 20-50%. Thats just the way it seems now. In order for players to maintain prices or go up they have to be putting up near MVP stats. All star level stats don't seem to cut it any more for they hobby. People just move on to the next prospect or star. I am a long term hold on Acuna. He seems to have greatness burning inside him. But in the short term I expected the majority of my cards to go down in value (while every shifts to buying Elle De La Cruz, Bobby Witt Jr., and Gunner Henderson).

Wax is certainly overpriced...but I think there are a lot of singles out there that offer value on the guys I collect (at least in the short term). And while Ohtani cards are certainly high in price, they are off his all time highs. I think he is the one player that has great long term value (if he stays healthy and has a long career). I actually think a lot of his RC cards are under valued at the moment. At some point collectors are going to view him as the LeBron James or baseball.

I think you have more money than me or make more money than me! I keep on collecting...but I do worry about value too!

View Acuna like people view Lebron, that is exactly what he wrote.

Comparing Ohtani to LeBron is probably not the best example because as far as I can tell no modern day player will be able to match the statistics of players of the past due to the modern game. In the NBA right now current players will be scoring more than in a lot of other eras.
I guess what I am trying to say is that if Ohtani keeps on doing Ohtani things he will be regarded as the best modern day baseball player (but won't be able to put up the same statistics as legends in the past). His popularity will also be unmatched due to his broad global appeal. No matter what happens in his career collectors in the future will want his cards due to his unicorn status as both a hitter and pitcher.

I loved Andruw and Chipper growing up, and guys like Matt Ryan and Julio Jones will always be some of my favorite players but Ronald is just different. My belief/hope for him is that he's up near the very top of the list of Atlanta greats when all is said and done. |
