That's what I believe too. He did not say that's what he did today. He once again claimed he had money stolen from his account. I think that's just continuing the lie that his crises management spokesperson put out after the first interview because they realized doing so to an illegal bookie is illegal and could open Ohtani up to punishment of some sort.

Ohtani doesn't strike me as the gambling type. Heck, his mommy manages his money back home, and he lives in stuff given to him by sponsors. He likely trusted Ippei way too much, and got burned for it. Not surprising to see all the goons come out of the woodwork lately to cheer for him to be torn down...as it seems we are a society somewhat obsessed with celebrity when we build them up and rejoice in tearing them down.

The sadder thing here is..there are some people (not all) here wanting Ohtani to go down only so people who own his cards will suffer. They don't actually care about Ohtani or what he did.

Equally there is a group who want this all to be overlooked because he’s “great for the game” and “the face of the game”. If it’s not that big of a deal, fine, he moves on and we all forget.
If he is guilty of federal crimes, he should have to pay whatever price that is. He shouldn’t get a pass because he’s Shohei Ohtani. I think we’ve seen enough of preferential treatment to last us a lifetime lately.
