I am perfectly calm with my tone. You are in the Ohtani blowouts thread...which contains biased people that like and collect Ohtani cards. I have clearly stated my bias. Just wanted you to be transparent and to admit yours.

Yes I did read it. You seem to be implying that you are an impartial observer that is monitoring this story for its historical significance.

You are also implying my judgment of the story is clouded because I am this imaginary Ohtani invevestor that needs him to be innocent or I will lose my investment money.

I am just asking you to be transparent. Do you collect cards? Who do you collect? Do you want Ohtani to be guilty of a crime? What do you think he is guilty of?

You may think I am screaming at you. I assure you I am not. I just want you to present your arguments and bias...if any you have.

Instead you seem to come into the Ohtani thread to pick a fight with Ohtani collectors.

I could be totally off base. That is why I wanted you to answer my questions.

Are you a baseball historian? You teach a class at a University. Do you have inside knowledge of this situation? I have been following this story pretty closely. And have clearly stated my opinion.

Anyone who's been the hobby for more than a day knows that my "group #5" proposal is true.

If you're not someone whose financial well-being depends on a specific player's continued popularity, then do not assume that I was lumping you into that group.

What’s funny is in this the dedicated Ohtani thread you guys are allowed to spew any theories you may have to prove his innocence and say there is no bias, well why not treat the people who have theories as to why he is not innocent with the same non bias. Not everybody is an Ohtani hater because they suggest he might be guilty of something. There are other hypotheticals that are being tossed around in other chat sites that would turn this thread on its head. Just remember people are being pretty civil in here.

Hopefully Ohtani has a better PR team prepping him for tomorrow than Kate Middleton did.

I collect Ohtani and I want to see him succeed. He might just be the most talented player of all time. He is exciting and good for the game of baseball. I will be holding my Ohtani cards long term.

I do not believe Ohtani was placing bets on baseball or any other sport. I think he was trying to help his friend and could be guilty of wire fraud, but if this is the case does not deserve any punishment from MLB, just a fine.

We shall all see what happens.

I too believe the first part of the bold, but I seriously would like to know the reason you think that someone who violates Federal law willingly or unwillingly should not be suspended from baseball, but simply receive a fine. That's not a very good example to set for other players, kids, etc. IMO. If that was you or I, we'd probably be fired from our jobs.

There was already a situation where a player used an illegal book, and the MLB penalty was only a fine because the player did not bet on baseball.

If Ohtani is guilty of wire fraud, but no bets were placed on baseball I imagine he will be fined, but no suspension.

The good news for Ohtani is that the Manfred playbook doesn’t involve throwing stars under the bus. How many Astros stars were punished? Heck, even going back to Manfred’s work during the steroids scandal, the Mitchell Report only focused on scrubs.

The thing that should worry Ohtani (if he has something to be worried about) is that it’s the IRS doing to the digging now.

And the IRS doesn’t f*ck around. They were the ones who dug into the steroids scandal. If there’s anything there, they’ll find it eventually.

But at least Ohtani should feel good about having the league solidly in his corner to minimize whatever damage is done.

Then he should be treated exactly like the past players to be fair and just. It just seems MLB would have a bigger punishment for anyone who violated Federal laws. It doesn't send a good message IMO.

Questions for the experts here. Does anyone know if these are from the same set/year?

I believe the 2020 version is a box topper from the 2020 update. Not sure about if the 2018 design is from the same set as I having a hard time finding info on these. Also is there a 2019 version as well? I want to try to collect the whole set if so.

I’ve watched enough news to know Ohtani will say “I cannot comment at this time because of the ongoing investigation in this case.”
