This Burrow is supposedly a Pop 12, but I couldn't find any ebay sales in the last 2 years.

Looking for Andre Dawson Serial numbered cards that are his jersey number - either #8 or #10. So looking for cards like 8/8 or 08/99 or 10/250.

Default Observations on the current state of the hobby from a show this weekend

I’m hoping to find a show here in the next few weekends

I'm excited for the Chicago Sports Spectacular this weekend. I'll go on Saturday. I've been to a few smaller shows since the national but I only spent a few dollars. I'm hoping to bag something big this weekend. I missed it last year but heard good things.

Thanks for the heads up! I might not make it but at least now it's on my radar.

While very true that ebayer isn't me, it's a shiller and it's still a problem that runs rampant in the hobby.

I didn't want to be rude in case that was you or I was misreading the situation - but that was an obvious shiller account. I wish it also showed how many items they won. I have had months where I bid a couple thousand time, but it was the "92% with this seller" that shows the shilling. I'd bet that the seller in question was probably one of the big consigners.

I bid a lot on the larger consigners because of the discount shipping and tacking on an item at $0.99 is like $1.20 or so. Out of the 100 items I will bid on, I will win several. Plus you may sneak a win at 1.25 for a $5 item if they have another large card ending at the same time.

Most of us do that. Most of us do not do that nearly 6000 times in a month.

This pretty much proves eBay does practically nothing to stop shill bidding. If someone is bidding that much with a single seller, it is obvious what is going on.

Had to obscure what it is because I still might bid on it

I chose to attend the Chicago Sports Spectacular today rather than throw back a few at the St. Patrick's day festivities. This show was at the same conference center as the national. It was 400+ tables in one big room. It didn't have the breakaway rooms like they had at the National so it wasn't as easy to get lost in that place.

I got the Fence Busters and 49 Bowman Red Schoendienst at one of the first tables I saw when I walked in. These cards were priced very fair. I only grabbed the Schoendienst because it was a HOF at a very reasonable price.

The Jackie is the same card that I saw at another show a few weeks back. I walked away from the card at that time but ended up buying it today at the same price he offered previously. It was clear he was firm at that price and I decided to pull the trigger this time. It was priced the same as others I saw at the show but this seller had several mid grade Jackie's so I was able to pick the one that I liked the most.

It was a great show. Very packed. I had to stand and wait for the aisles to clear on a couple occasions. I saw a little more than half the tables before leaving because I had already spent more money than I brought with me.

sports spectacular was great for me.

got in thur. evening with dealer buddies, bought dead centered '64 mantle
sgc5, '48 leaf honus wagner psa3, near perfect centering, '56 clemente sgc 3,
and '57 rookie frank robinson sgc 4, gonna crack that one out and re-sub.

friday evening, '65 carlton rookie, psa 5.5.

also traded '59 mantle sgc5.5 and received high eye appeal '55 bowman mantle sgc 2.5 and $220.

today i went and traded 2nd year jordan bgs 7.5 for rookie reggie jackson psa 4.5.

last but not least, finished strong with trading a rookie banks plus 600 for a stunning '56 mantle sgc 2.5. that has the faintest and i mean the faintest wrinkle below his right ear in the dark green area, cannot see it. blink and it looks like a 5. i wish i knew how to post pictures, but, alas, i am inept when
it comes to computers in general.

but, CARDS, i study, study, study, vcp . i choose to use a special flashlight at shows that is 3x brighter than normal. does wonders.

show was really great, i'm exhausted. and almost out of money, lol.

Went to the Dallas show this weekend (Friday/Sat) - first time ever at this show and have attended the National for 25+ years. Not a bad show for a smaller show, and is really more of a modern show and Pokemon - vintage is very scarce and only a few dealers with decent vintage at this show.

Would say hottest stuff going was Bowman Wyatt Langford rc in PSA 10, Evan Carter RC’s, Bedard RC’s, tons of RPA rookies, Luka stuff, Jordan… Surprised there was only a few Wemby rookies at the show. Personally will probably not go back in the future since I can get the same items on eBay and pricing is a little better. If I was into Pokémon and very recent modern heavily I could see setting up.

Went to a local card show in South San Francisco.

Within the first 15 minutes, I moved $1415 worth of product (retail football, retail hockey and Pokemon), a net profit of roughly $450.

Spent the next 1.25 hours chatting it up with some folks, looking at display cases and diving in dollar boxes.

Picked up 4 basketball singles for $370 total, including a card I once owned.

Hobby ain't dead yet!

Had probably my best show I've done in PHX. But it's probably because I had stuff people wanted and at prices they were willing to pay, the two most important factors to having a successful show

Went to a 100ish table show this weekend...

A lot of prices were insane
- Guy asking $400 for a card that comped at $80
- Guy asking $75 for a card with comps at $30 and $38, offered $40 and was laughed at
- Guy asking the highest comp on every card

At least 25% of tables had NO prices on cards.
A LOT of SGC slabs asking at/over PSA 10 comps

A few dealers said they had a good weekend there but I didn't see too much money exchanging hands from customers to dealers

A lot of dealers asking everyone that comes to the table if they had anything they were selling

Set up at a show yesterday here in Canton Ohio and foot traffic was very good up until the last couple hours of the show. My dollar box stuff was flying and wound up selling the whole box to a customer. My $3 and $5 items did ok but for some reason didn't get nearly the activity of people looking through them like the $1 box. I had my stuff priced competitively but was willing to do better if they were buying multiple items. Lots of people wanting significant discounts though even when just buying 2 items. Lots of kids running around with "pelican cases". Some with real nice stuff and others not so much. I don't know if they were truly his or his dads but a kid probably 10-11 had a case that had a Jordan rookie BGS 7 and some high end Luka all graded 9 or better. Overall I was happy with how my sales turned out but had hoped to move a bit more.

I went to the Phoenix show over the weekend. Found three cards I was looking for (bought two), and was pleased that the dealers asking price was quite fair. Saw a lot of wax for sale and bought a couple boxes of 2022 Heritage High Number for $50. I thought the crowd looked light, but I was there early Saturday morning. They also had a kinda weird split with dealers in the front, and breakers and other stuff in the back, so maybe it just gave the appearance of only like half the building being full.
