But can you compare that person to any other players that played at the same time?

I tend to agree to an extent, but would also offer my take that with the rules change, better base stealers are MORE valuable than before.

Witt was 6th in 2022 with 30, then became more valuable in terms of the category when he leapfrogged two positions to 4th in 2023 with 49.

It's kinda nice to see ownership bent over the barrel on one these big contracts finally. That is a bad deal for Royals yikes. He could easily be worth it but they just basically bought out 3 years of FA at an average of $33 million a year with a potential albatross of 4 player options in the 4 years directly after that are only taken if he's worth less. Royals could've easily got him with less player options or slightly less money and I don't see what they gain by doing this.

That said, Witt should be worth it, and the contract probably will be fine. I just don't see any upside for the Royals from savings gained here.
