Ya, because the Royals are bad now means they will be bad in the near future. The bats will be much better this year and the pitching cannot be worse. We will see how things shake out.

On the plus side, AL Central division winner has had the fewest wins among the division winners in 2 of the past 3 years.

Down side is, they may not make the playoffs without winning the division if the low-win-total-wins-the-Central continues (Twins actually had fewer wins than all the AL wildcard teams last year while winning the Central)

Royals were only 31 games back of the division winner last year.

Compared to 45 games back of the AL East winning Orioles.

Looks like they have spent about the same amount on payroll lately as they did 10 years ago. That will need to change.

Swept the 2014 Angels (Trout 1st MVP season) on the way to Game 7 of the WS.

The pitching "cannot be worse" is not a great place to start.

The last 8 seasons they haven't finished above 3rd, the last 6 not above 4th.

Their star catcher is about to turn 34.

My point was merely it doesn't look short term rosy and if things don't change, it could take this contract term to be deep playoff run successful again.

Can it change, absolutely. Is there a road map to that change, well, step one was probably this signing. After that, as you suggest, we'll see. As stated, the AL Central is an easier place to start from.

So happy I get to watch Bobby in KC for years to come. The only thing that could have made me more happy would have been a trade to the Cubs. I also had a trio of Witt Auto's Pop at PSA today and 1 is a Pop 1 in a 10.

Spending more money has nothing to do with it. Spending money more wisely does.

I think Witt is very, very good - but the Contract value implies that he has many more ‘very’s in front of the good. I haven’t followed his every step and at bat - what do you guys think….. worth the big bucks so early in his career?

Here's the list of players with 50 or more HRs and 75 or more SBs in their first 2 seasons:

Bobby Witt Jr.

Here's another list of the players with a 30/30 season in either of their first 2 seasons (and only one of them isn't an outfielder):

Bobby Bonds
Mike Trout
Ronald Acuna Jr
Julio Rodriguez
Bobby Witt Jr

Same deal for me, I pulled from a hobby box in mid-December 2022 and entered code immediately.

I was surprised to see the image on the packing slip, which I don't think I've seen before.

Yes but they changed the rules. Once again for the people in the back, you can't count SB totals post rule changes to SB totals pre rule changes.

He stole 49 bases. New rules or not, he still easily gets 30. And I can count just fine.
