Thanks! They do pop up unsigned on eBay occasionally, I would just save a search for royals 2022 ticket or something to that effect.

Wanted at least one nice Bobby card and thought the PSA pop report on this was exceptionally low. I’ve never submitted a card for grading before but I have to send this one in!

Per rotowire:

ANALYSIS
Witt will have the ability to opt out after the seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th years of the deal. The contract also contains a three-year, $89 million club option after the 11th season, which could make it a 14-year, $377.7 million deal running through the 2037 season when all is said and done. Witt, 23, slashed .276/.319/.495 with 30 home runs and 49 stolen bases for the Royals in 2023, finishing seventh in the American League MVP voting.

11 years, wow. works out just above 26 million per year. Will take him to his age 34 season. This could work out for both sides. Witt is giving up a possible re-up at age 29/30 which if he has an MVP type season could net Judge money. He is also making more in is arb years that he would have. Team gets price certainty and may end up being a value if Witt balls out. Of course, the flip side, if he is an average player or gets hurt a ton, than they are stuck. They are getting Witt in all of his prime years.

Edit: The player opt out makes it a very good deal for Witt. I don't think the team will opt in for the final three years. He would have to be playing at a super high level for that to happen. A more likely scenario is a player opt-out before that with an renegotiated extension either with the Royals or part of a sign and trade scenario. That is years away though.

You are kind of assuming the market stays stagnant for 11 years. Average salaries could be much higher then and he could also be a HOFer to be that is chasing milestones or same jersey forever scenario where it is worth it to keep him 3 more years. You never know.

Potentially a 14 year contract.

I just think if he is doing MVP/HOF type stuff he will want a bigger salary. 26 million won't do it. He will opt out and look for a 40/50 million per year for age 29-35 or whatever. Yeah, if he becomes a hometown thing and the team wants him around for ticket sales chasing numbers, they may opt in. Too soo to worry about it though. Got to see how the next 6 years play out first.

And this is why Soto is going to get an ungodly amount of money. There are no other guys hitting fa at his age anymore.

Happy for him, and for Royals fans ... but man, this could be Trout-ian (Trout-esque?) with a lack of post season opportunities.
