D'Backs are scrappers.
They were outscored by their opponents by 15 runs over the entire regular season, but still went 84-78 to barely sneak in to the playoffs.
Their expected win/loss record with that differential was 80-82 which, of course, wouldn't have got them in.
They do just enough to win.

I can tell you, as someone who watched Bochy-led teams for years, you'd never see a player disrespect the game of baseball like Garcia did on that single.

Hey they had a whole add campaign saying let the kids play. With bat flips and posturing for home runs that aren’t close to going out they already started disrespecting the game.

The way I look at is, the goal of baseball is to win. Anything that doesn't take away from that is fine. But when a player doesn't hustle on balls in play, it only serves to make a mockery of the game and defeats the purpose of competition.

I think it just reflects the new playoff format. Nearly half of the league plays in the postseason now. You're going to have middling teams make the playoffs more often, and some of those teams are going to get hot at the right time and make a deep postseason run.

Also, I think it was what D-Backs owner Ken Kendrick wanted. He wanted smaller market teams to have a competitive chance against bigger market teams like the Dodgers.

It not bad or good, plenty of teams with a bad record have won the World Series.

Two teams with an even worse record than the D-backs won it
