Because defense and "tools" are ridiculously overvalued.

Sadly or not, this ^ is true ….
If he was a full time position player, he’d be the greatest thing since sliced bread (oh, and not an Astro also)

These lists finally got it right: https://www.instagram.com/p/CyQ398hL...NlZDc0MzIxNw==

Yordan and Reggie Jackson are on a postseason list by themselves

Default Yordan Alvarez

They got the top two right. Yordan and Seager are almost carbon copies of each other, except for the position. Both are devastating left-handed hitters, who if only they could stay healthy…

But Acuna, Betts and some other studs are still in the picture. You can’t bump Correa into the top 5 just because he got a few hits!

But I digress. This is a Yordan thread, and Yordan belongs at the top of the list.

Despite the playoff performance, I would still highly recommend not to buy his cards if you are buying because you want appreciation. His PSA 10 Topps RC is still hovering anywhere from $7-$15. He's the best or at minimum top 3 hitter in baseball, but he's got all the same issues still dogging his cards prices that aren't going away: full time DH, injury history, Astro, and a huge glut of supply of his rookie cards.

Buy him only to collect, not for price appreciation. He is one of the most fun hitters to watch

We all know you're going to die on your hill and that's ok, do your thing. I'm sure a new collector will thank you a decade from now for saving them that $7-$15.

My favorite part about Yordan is you can get some absolute killer cards at not-killer prices. A red TC refractor for less than $2K? Yes please!

"The 33% Hall of famer has 52.5 career WAR"- Silent George (HOF Pace thread)

Yordan's Career War is 18.6(Fangraphs)

Yordan needs to accumulate 34.4 WAR from now until he's done to have a WAR that's equal to 33% of current Hall of Famers. He's entering his prime seasons. I think he can get that by the completion of his Age 33 season(7 seasons from now). If the Astros can win another World Series and he's a big reason for it, I don't see how voters could keep the man out no matter the counting stats. It's a long way to go but I think he can do it.

Agree! I just bought a red brooklyn auto for $350. That's a ~3k card for Soto with much less volume of rookie cards. Let's all enjoy the lower prices for the current best hitter in baseball. He has way too many rookie autos for my liking and I think risked permanent carpal tunnel. But there is a positive side to that allowing mass fans to get his auto affordable even when he is destroying baseballs.

I think his prices could be close to an all time high. But no way can anyone cap it at his current prices.

I buy for enjoyment first but also on a theory that in the future themed completed collections of top players will be what's valuable and not as much individual cards. Completed rainbows.

I always need to come in and correct this guy. There is one reason that Yordan's cards are as cheap as they are, and it's bolded. Full time DH has zero bearing. Injury history and being an Astro affect him no more than any other player that play in a similar market with similar injuries.

If you want to know the things that actually affects card prices, it's best to ignore BBases. If you had listened to him over the past couple of years you would have missed a guy who has seen his BCA rise by 50% in a market that has fallen 50%. For his price level, he's a top 3 performer behind only Judge and his 60 HR season and Corbin Carroll who is currently riding a ROY high.

Yordan had more extra base hits than the Braves in the DS.

The Brooklyn I mentioned above! I don't think about prices. The line of thought is more what /5 and /10 rookie cards are on auction that may never again be in future.

Pumped for Sunday. Just wondering what inning his hr will come.
