I am currently reading this thread out loud to my wife.

We're on Page 2.

She's getting ice cream at the moment.

Don't lump me in with those people. A man and a women can absolutely be just friends, it's not debatable. At some point did this become a discussion on "should" they be friends? Thread is still hilarious assuming people are being honest in their responses.

Does your husband talk as much as he posts on this forum? If so, I'm sorry.

I'm kidding. He's great!!!

Spoiler: She thinks ksemmel doesn't fully realize how he's going about things.

He's clearly recognizing that anytime he or his female friend get into a relationship that it's crucially important for both of them to make friends with the new bf or gf because a strict one-to-one relationship isn't really feasible when people are in separate romantic relationships.

She likes the way he's going about things but thinks he needs to realize that if he suddenly started demanding a friendship independent of the significant other that things would get messy fast.

I'm giving her the background on folks and she referred to you as a "rare soul" for the kind of work you do.

Not even joking.

This entire thread is baffling to me. While some guys may feel they cannot be friends with a female, that isn't a universal thought. One of my best friends is a female and she will likely be in my wedding when that time comes. My gf has met her, and they have hung out numerous times and developed their own friendship as well.
They can be but they choose not to. Thats what I gather from the few guys opposed to the idea. Its fine if they feel that way, I completely understand and agree.

Still reading.

Reading out loud is so much slower than reading in your head.

Page 4.

Now she's punching my arm saying "people aren't DEFINING what they mean by 'friends' and it's why they have such wildly different opinions!"

In response to Joobs, "ok, gay guys are a totally different case."

Frenzy's wifey needs to make an account. Then her and Josie can fight it out for "female supremacy" on BO. Preferrably in mud in a $19.99 blowup pool purchased from a local Walmart.

My wife is literally tapping my laptop screen saying "yessssss, these are the questions that need to be answered."

Ironically only two people answer it (you being one and ksemmel).

Even though everyone judged me and Brass for our opinions.

Probably it's because everyone doesn't really have female friends or what they do together with their female "friends" are very basic stuff.

Ksemmel seems to be the only real poster from the opposing view. And honestly it seems like it works for them which is great.

Yes, ksemmel was the only one who at least explained his point of view without strictly resorting to name calling.

And I respect that.

4. "Alone time" is my sticking point. Friendship in public and groups is cool but any kind of privacy moves it into red flag territory if you are married.

5. Dating apps have changed everything. I can't relate to my female friends who are living in the dating app world.

I also think this post from last week might help to highlight some of the generation gap differences.

One of the single most uncomfortable moments of my life was when my brother-in-law (who was a medical sales rep) showed up on my doorstep with text and photos of my sister (also a medical sales rep) banging doctors/surgeons to "move product."

(for my own part, I lasted three months in the field before transitioning from sales to education)

Picture the sluttiest sales rep / person at the cafeteria.

You are picturing the average dating app user.

Disclaimer: I'm five beers in and about to go to bed.
