Default Question: Has anyone done the math...

On Selling on here vs. ebay?
I do lower-end sales mostly and figure ebay fees/taxes/shipping takes about 20% of the bottom line so I've been doing about that much of a discount on here. Do you agree?

*Please move if this isn't the right forum, thx

Since ebay started charging buyers tax I charge the same as comps most of the time depending on the item. Selling here saves me on fees and the buyer on taxes so it works out for both of us. In the old days before ebay charged buyers tax I would discount for the fees.

People still sell here? And even if they do, it will only get looks if it's listed at 40-60% off eBay.

I view it as too big of a risk to sell here. If you sell here that means you're liable to file sales tax returns in the states you're making sales to. On ebay or facebook, they collect and remit all that on your behalf.

If you get a 1099 from Paypal, it really wouldn't take much for a state to see you're selling product from a venue that doesn't automatically collect sales tax and audit you from a compliance standpoint

I've never sold here. I've sent some specific collectors cards for free because they were player collectors and I pulled something they'd want (and vice versa), but it just seems like too much of a hassle to sell.

Yeah it is hard to sell on here if it isn’t a drastic mark down from eBay.

You only sell here if you don't like money.

Selling here helps the buyers, as they get a card without tax and save on the final sellign fees the seller usually has to eat.

BUT, the amount of eyes and the disorganization to find what you want hurts the market.

So the consensus is don't sell here.

Sell on eBay.

With eBay is it BIN or auctions as the preferred way of selling?

I haven't listed a 0.99 cent auction in years. The last one I did, I got hosed royally and lost money.

My rule of thumb is, if it's an in-demand card of a player or if it's low numbered, then I typically list as a BIN OBO. If it's a card that recently sold, I usually list a BIN at a higher price (sometimes double) than what the last one sold for.

If they want it bad enough, they'll message me through eBay.

I do a mix of both. If there is something I have to get at least a specific price on, or something sentimental that i won't let it go for anything below $xxx then it's BIN/BO.

I typically list things at BIN/BO and let them sit for 3 months. If it hasn't sold after 3 months and I need to liquidate/turn inventory over then i put it at $.01 auctions. I also liquidate inventory in December 1) for the holidays, and 2) easier to take ending inventory for tax purposes.

thanks for all the replies! I learned a lot.
I've mostly only traded online until now.
I'm surprised there are so many 'for sale' posts in the buy/sell/trade sections
