Smart deal - if he cleans up his act he gets a bag - if not the Rockets can drop him at any time.

Rockets could have spared themselves a bit and realized this when I said it two years ago.

I mean they obviously realized how risky it was to have a player like KPJ with how they structured his contract, so they spared themselves a while ago. Was only a matter of time before he'd get into another off-the-court issue. It's not like the Rockets really needed him anyway with VanVleet, Green, Thompson, and Brooks.

"Kevin Porter Jr.’s four-year extension is only guaranteed for $15.86 million, all in Year 1 [which already passed], sources said. The contract includes June trigger dates after the first season, but the Rockets can essentially release Porter at any point without further pay up to the $82.5M."

This is what happens when you have no positive male influence in your life.

It’s unfortunate for someone so talented to throw their life away but at this point it’s squarely on him.

Career is over at this point

Wasting a roster spot on a POS like KPJ speaks to the dumpster fire that is the Rockets organization. This isn’t all about money.

It isn't all about money, but one thing you'd learn by now watching the NBA is that because these POS are so talented, teams gamble on them and give them second chances in hopes they'll become better people. Miles Bridges, Ruben Patterson, Jason Kidd. Even Joshua Primo may be making a comeback himself.

I am not saying that it's okay, and personally, I don't think they deserve it, but that's just the reality of the situation for younger teams with a poor culture.

There’s so many degens in the prospecting/hyping side of this hobby that part of me is shocked news like this doesn’t bump the player’s prices temporarily.

It's an odd post from someone who has been arrested for domestic violence against her husband, the now deceased Dwayne Haskins.

From the article:

Curzer said Porter has a history of abusing Gondrezick, including an incident in which he rammed his car into hers.

See ESPN said that the Rockets tried to trade him after arrest. Do they think there is a team stupid enough to want this guy? Chance he's going to prison and at least may never play in this league again as they could suspend him for life as repeat offender.

Well, the Rockets traded for him knowing he had a lot of baggage and had done what had already been reported with the Cavs. And there was probably more that KPJ had done that wasn't reported but they still traded for him.

So the Rockets are probably thinking/hoping there's a team out there like them.

But I agree, why would any team trade for him? Even if a team was interested in his talent, you need to let this whole thing play out before even considering a move. Has anyone gotten traded in the middle of a criminal investigation?

The Hornets might trade for him, they fit their values. Also there's a greater than 1% chance they mix him up with Michael Porter Jr.

They are trying to move his salary, attached with draft compensation, to take on a player with a similar salary. Any team that makes a deal for Porter's salary would then immediately cut him. It would be a smart move for a team with a guy signed to along-term deal that they no longer want or think the contract is underwater and they can get out of it by paying Porter's one-year of guarantee and getting draft compensation to facilitate the deal.

But Porter's contract is non-guaranted if cut before the season to the Rockets could just dump him now.

Everything I've read is that the approximately $16 mil for this season is guaranteed and the rest of the contract is not.
