I'm estimating a 80% drop in his overall card prices since the news came out, so yes I would agree. And that is just asking prices I'm looking at, not like anybody is buying any cards of him atm.

If I were to look at this situation very cynically, I would think Wander is currently trying to pay off his accusers to silence them in an attempt to make the criminal investigation go away.

But even if that happens, it probably means he's done some illegal stuff with adolescent girls and his reputation is forever tarnished.

So either way, when it comes to his card prices and his public image, it's a done deal.

i don't think that hurt his card prices last i remember.

problem with Franco is that his prices were insane to begin with, and i highly doubt he'll get back to those values anytime soon.

I think you'd agree there's a big difference between 14 and 16 years old. Puberty typically ends at 16 for girls. LT also played during the 80s and early 90s, without social media.

The drop in value has more to do with him potentially never playing in the MLB again if he is found guilty, not necessarily the crime itself.

I am willing to bet you could buy one of each LT card ever made and have a pocket full of cash left over for what the highest Wander card went for. Comparing LT to Wander is apples to oranges.

It's incredible to me that everyone mentioning "well so and so other player did this and he's still valuable"(Malone, LT, etc) doesn't realize that all those other players had FULL CAREERS. Wander is going wind to up with a one season career. What would Karl Malone's cards be worth if he was kicked out of the league in 1987?

Exactly. Wander’s prices were based on him being one of the best ever. At this point, his career has already been derailed twice while other players his age are excelling. Even if all this is dropped, he isn’t the best player under 25 so his prices shouldn’t go back up to their previous highs.

An equally plausible theory is that they're making sure to cross every t and dot every i before officially clearing him, because re-opening an investigation that was closed prematurely is a terrible look for the authorities.


Again, as has been the case since this all cropped up - none of us knows anything. Continuing to speculate is absolutely pointless.

i get that. LT wasn't a QB and this stuff happened much later...but it hasn't stopped his rookie from selling at a pretty good price, or him being banned from any public appearances or anything to do with the league (at least not that i know of)

Wander's high prices are largely based on hype via social media. LT's prices were built organically from his performance. Social media giveth, and social media taketh.

I hope you're not saying what your post seems to imply. Though the developmental phase of puberty does end around 16 for girls, it does not mean that they are adults. Puberty deals with physiological development and not psychological development. Adolescence does not typically end until at least the age of 20. The endpoint for adolescence is plastic and can very from one individual to another. The factors for this are fascinating and well worth a deep dive into the literature if you have accesses to a journal database. The frontal and prefrontal cortexes can continue to mature until the mid to late 20's for some individuals.

I was only focusing on the physiological aspect -- not the psychological or moral aspects.
