Man, what a bummer for baseball. Hoping the best for Ohtani.

I would say if someone did what bo did now it would be more impressive. Not that doing it back in 80s/90s wasn't, but all sports have gotten even more specialized.

Haha yep, we are on the same wavelength with the exception of Patty. I'm a Spurs fan, and Patty Mills was a great little sparkplug, but imo you are overestimating his magnificence a tad!

He will still get a larger contract than Judge. Thank God the NL has the DH.

Will be fascinating to see all the different offers and the restrictions. Will some teams make offers where he's not allowed to pitch? Only DH or play the field.

It was fun while it lasted. I hope Ohtani gets away from the Angels and just focuses on hitting from here on out...his homers are beyond majestic.

Good observation - I’m wondering what an Ohtani purely focused on hitting might look like…………

The Bo discussion is another angle at greatness. Hitting 32 HRs/100RBIs and almost rushing 1k yards in the same season will never be seen again. Just unreal talent.

I still believe he reaches record deal territory but if I was a club the deal would be heavily back loaded.

Looks like he will be batting against Mets and will continue to do so.

They just mentioned on the Rangers broadcast that Ohtani is set to have Tommy John surgery. They were talking about Seager being in the MVP discussion. And by the way, he does NOT belong in that conversation. They were saying it takes on a whole different look now that Ohtani has to have TJ surgery.

What would Bryce Harper do without it!!!! This rule is 1000% benefitting Harper. Could be for Ohtani if he goes to the NL.

He's still batting. It's been announced he's playing tomorrow against Mets and moving forward will still bat.

That's good to know. Wondering if he could still do that. We were just talking today at work if a player could still hit and play 1B with TJ.

Unless it’s bothering him, there’s no medical reason he shouldn’t be able to hit. I personally had TJ, right handed thrower, lefty batter. Didn’t feel a thing swinging the bat. Hurt every time I tried to throw.

I could’ve toughed it out and played first base if there was a reason, like a pennant race. But if your future is as a pitcher, I wouldn’t recommend it. Could hurt your shoulder trying to compensate for the elbow pain.

Masahiro Tanaka had a UCL Tear and pitched almost his entire big league career with it only getting rehab and plasma injections. I don't remember what grade his tear was though.

from an article in ST 2019

Quote:
A lot of people have been waiting for Tanaka’s elbow to blow since he opted for rehab instead of Tommy John surgery when he was injured midway 2014, his rookie season as a big leaguer.

A lot of people have been wrong so far.

“I’m not conscious of it,” Tanaka said. “I don’t exercise the elbow more so than other things. I don’t do anything special specifically for the elbow.”

Tanaka missed just 2 ½ months before returning to make two September starts in 2014, then made it through four full seasons pitching with this tear while seeing many other pitchers with similar injuries get Tommy John surgery and then not pitch again for about a year.

I can't imagine a world where the Rangers broadcasters would think Seager could now win the MVP, lol

Mark Prior had what looked to be the most perfect fluid mechanics and sh*t happens.
