I'm sure that this question has been discussed so sorry in advance to those who might find this repetitive. What is the consensus on the reason for the 2018 Update Chrome Debut out selling ($ wise) the regular base? It's the first time I can remember this happening with a debut card. Is it due to him batting on the debut card photo and pitching on the base?

Apologies again for what is probably a rehashed discussion.

Tatis had guys buying the debut over the base (hitting over throwing) there for a while

His true "chrome" rookie was in Chrome.

If you're buying a psuedo-RC from Chrome Update, people seem to prefer the batting image. With his RC already existing in regular Chrome, US1 shouldn't even exist (or should be an RD too).

Beauty in the eye of the beholder. I used to hate HMT1 but can't get over the RD logo on HMT32. It just "taints" it for me. That said, I own both...

I used to prefer the US1 image over the #700 image due to the Red Jersey color match, but now I prefer the clean look and contrast of the white jersey from Series 2/Chrome.

I also used to dislike the US285 hitting image due to the RD text but now I don't even see the text and have come to appreciate the image, plus it gets bonus points for actually being from his debut.

In the end collect what you like, but that's the beauty of collecting Ohtani cards since he has more options to choose from, so more to like! Also tastes change over time so don't forget to consider the future.

FOMO it up, just don't be POMO!

So I'm thinking this 1/1 needs a totally unnecessary cross over makeover to a PSA 9. What do you guys think? Only thing that irks me is that previous owner subbed it to BGS 3x, getting the same BGS 9 every time

. Furthermore, makes me think a cross may be better than a crack, but I hate doing that.

Can you notice what is making the surface an 8.5?

No, but fairly certain it's just the usual print lines inherent to acetate cards. Impossible to tell with the baggy but BGS is hard on those.

Last BGS I cracked had a 10 surface subgrade. Once I cracked it there was an obvious surface scratch. Sent it to PSA anyway and it came back a 7. So I'm firmly in the "leave it as is" camp now. Esp with how much Ohtani prices have skyrocketed, and PSA's pricing structure.

PSA is unforgiving with surface scratches and print lines so you're setting yourself up for an 8. Crossovers are more successful with lower centering and corners subgrades than with surface.

My turn for a successful consolidation post! I had a handful of base rookies I had been sitting on for years, usually when someone spikes this high I'd sell and turn into more Twins cards for my PC, but Shohei is special, man. I'm confident we are watching the best player we'll see in our lifetimes. So in this case I wanted to turn my base stash into a nicer rookie - I am happy with the result!

Love that Heritage chrome! I had one in an SGC 9.5 and got rid of it a while back. I regret doing so and hope to pick up another in the future.
