Apologies if this has been discussed and I missed it, but I got a couple orders back today and the slabs are noticeably heavier than they were before.

They did change slabs, yes.

Nat discussed this in a recent podcast. Really interested to check these out. What are your impressions of them?

Also, are these different slabs on every card you got back or just the thicker cards?

Appreciate your take on the slabs you received.

All of them were heavier. Slightly different color too compared to the old ones when you have them stacked. I don't know if they switched materials or just beefed up the inside...or both.

PSA customer service was better before. Yeah, the price is down and now they're grading 1m+ a month. The increase in orders probably caused them to hire 3rd party customer service for phone calls and emails. That is what I sincerely believe.

I have no doubts that you're on to something with that.

I just don't know what a reasonable expectation is for being successful as these grading Cos come out of the pandemic where cards went to the moon, aquisitions are made, and these massive moves get made. I think a LOT of changes to the industry & PSA's general business model and business practices in general have taken place in a super short timeframe.

I think it's fair to give all of these grading companies time to get themselves sorted in a proper direction before getting too honked off. But, hey, people have every right to get mad in whatever timeframe they wish.

Except Beckett... What on Earth have they been working on the last 3 years?!?!

Think for Beckett...the management folks who are involved in day to day operations put up a front saying things are slowly getting better...but behind the scenes, they are hampered by those making the money decisions from growing because the money folks don't want to invest a lot of money into growth.

I called their customer service a few days ago. Here's a simple breakdown of how that went...

- Recording said there were 151 people in the queue ahead of me and gave me the option to wait or get a callback - Most popular grading co in the world by a mile = understandable. I chose callback.

- PSA Called backed a few hours later.

- I asked my question. Girl on the line answered it and was eager/offered to walk me through PSA's website to find info I was needing about my order and explained when, where, and why the info I was looking for would populate as the cards moved down the chain.

She didn't rush me off the phone. She was super nice and on the ball and she offered to answer any other questions that I thought of during the call.

^ What the F is the problem with the call back option for a long queue? It works just fine. Are you having a baseball card emergency? NO. You're (most likely) having a temper tantrum over baseball cards you need/want to flip for cash.

- For the love of all things sacred stop calling PSA and banging your little drums or clapping your hands in their faces about "How long will my order take" and then clutching your pearls when they tell you to go pound sand. If your order was in some abnormal state they will take care of it. If not... it's back to sand pounding for you.

YOU are the reason the queue is so long. YOU KNOW THE DEAL WHEN YOU SEND CARDS IN TO PSA. Stop acting like this is some new absurdity to you and start acting like me. I'm a man! I'm 40!

Seriously, though, there's an old saying that's a play off of the engineer's triangle: Good, Fast, Cheap - You can only have 2 of the 3. You got CHEAP: PSA prices are way way down and continuing in that direction. And you got GOOD: PSA is the most profitable and most collectible card for anyone grading to sell or keep. There isn't a better option. FAST got sacrificed.

Learn to love it or find youself a fast & cheap 3 letter acronym'd alternative. Plenty of them are out there.
Glad you got through (I did not on 3-4 tries), but I think you may have Stockholm Syndrome.

I’ve aired my share of grievances on PSA…but I’m actually a big fan of this post! I think there’s some truth here we all need to remind ourselves of. Caused me to rethink things.

I like how your 80’s special is ahead of my 90’s special from 6/15. Good for you! And yes, 80s grades are tough. Especially that pesky Henderson rookie!

Your 90s are probably requiring them to spend some effort. They probably saw my 80s, had a belly laugh, and grabbed the 5 stamp.

Just got the upcharge email just now for 1 of the 33 cards i submitted so now i know grades so i expect it to ship today or Monday.

33 cards
31 Baseball - 2 Football

Psa 10 - 31
Psa 8 - 1
Psa 5 - 1

Have no idea what happened with the 5. Gonna have to crack it and really look at it super hard as i didnt see anything wrong with it at all when sending it.

Was what i was expecting as i spend a lot of time inspecting cards before sending them in.

So far since switching back to psa from sgc im sticking with psa.

Have sent 3 orders in in the past 3 months with psa with the 1st 2 orders having 100% gem 10 rate and this 3rd order with only 2 cards not gem out of 33.

My 90s special popped and there are some interesting results, I got some 8s on some really clean TLAW Optic Scope/Holo vs some 10s on Select die cuts. I had a Herbert die cut that I submitted to SGC and got a 9 and tried my luck with PSA and got a 10.
