Everyone laughed at the Tacofractors but they are selling for far more than the same Red /5 would of a player

If I pulled a Tacofractor I'd still be laughing, and selling asap regardless of the pricing.

Garbage. Expensive garbage. Just because flipper bois jack up the "value" of something by bidding it up against each other, doesn't make it desirable long term

and lucky for those of us who would rather have the Red /5

Plenty of examples of people overpaying for stuff just because it's hard to get your hands on could be rehashed here. Doesn't make the stuff good.

What does a "flipper boi" mean? You just said if you'd pulled one you'd flip it too

I've come to the realization that in general all of this board, including myself, overrate to the extent people will hate these cheesy designs and parallels. And I think it's an extension of how intertwined baseball cards are with people who collect anything at all, and those people also happen to collect very weird stuff. I never realized until this board that baseball cards wasn't mostly just sports fans who happen to collect cards, but most of the crowd are general collectors of stuff and baseball just happens to be there to collect as well.

Flipper Boi means someone who buys something to sell it so someone else, bidding it up to XX thinking they'll be able to sell it for YYY.

What I was intending to describe was pulling a garbage card with a high street value from a pack. I start all my auctions at .99 and let the flippers or collectors decide what it's worth.

(also, I do buy unopened wax with intent to offset cost, but at my core I collect and have a very sizeable PC that I don't sell from. I personally don't buy anything already opened, with the intent to sell it)

Price doesn't equal cool. It certainly doesn't equal taste. Tacofractors will be much larger joke as time passes. This is just the beginning.

It's a joke to a few of us. The market surely doesn't think of it as a joke.

I think there is a chance ( a veryyyy small one) that if this is a one year thing they could gain a cult following down the road

They are truly terrible but if they make someone happy, hope that person either pulls from a pack or is able to land one at a cost they feel good about.

The inflated price is due to the "hype" (which doesn't make me want one) and rarity. Understand that the market prices them high today but once the next fad comes out, someone will be left holding the bag, and they'll just have an ugly /5 card of a player with hundreds of /5 cards to choose from.

The difference is they are starting at 3x+ the value of a red. And not a single person in here thought they would even be 1x a red when they were announced

Hence my comment about the market being driven far more by overall collectors(who collect alot of weird crap) and not just sports card collectors or baseball fans who like cards

The faster they go up...the faster they can come down as well. Id walk w/ extreme caution.

They are different, novel, and rare. And easy to search for on eBay. If they are so well loved that they become a permanent insert in Topps Chrome Flagship, and end up being well-regarded appealing items to own and show off, these first versions could indeed end up difficult and permanently expensive to acquire.

I can understand player collectors needing a copy of their guy, so, they may always be priced high. That said, if you're the person who paid $505+ tax for a Nico Hoerner TacoFractor, I hope you are a Hoerner supercollector and not someone hoping to sell for a profit down the road.

I don't think any who posts here particularly cares how they sell on ebay except to the extent they benefit from hype-chasing flipper-bois who want to profit on the hype, or to the extent they make the value of their unopened wax or break spots go up, and for that, you might be right, maybe the current taco fractor prices are making a bunch of us feel silly.

Me personally I think they are silly cards. I'd sell immediately if I pulled one from a pack at today's prices, and if I wanted to own one, I'd wait at least a year before buying.

Factoring into the price right now is the mystery of what their purpose is. I’m sure there are more than a few buyers who think that owning a tacofractor might get them a year of free tacos at Taco Bell.

Creating weird parallels for the sake of being weird to garnern interest is not a new concept. Panini is used to doing this sort of thing in their own products. They've created everything from emoji face mask parallels to Baby Shark emoji parallels and even toilet paper roll parallels in 2021 Optic. It's almost as if Topps is only just now copying the Panini route with these absurd Tacofractors.

Like Home Field Advantage inserts being direct copies of Panini Downtowns

Can't wait for Topps 'KaBlams!' next year

Well Fanatics did hire all those Panini losers. I don't think we expected anything different from these clowns.

Interesting. I have had a membership for a couple years but apparently that doesn’t automatically enroll you in the rewards program. I literally just went and had to click one button on the website and now I’m enrolled. Thanks Barnes.

In my opinion, this is the answer right here. People are speculating on what Topps will announce is the true purpose of these cards. Topps hasn't announced what it is yet but they have announced that it is more than just a regular card. Those buying now are just making the bet that it is cool enough to be worth the cost or it will be worth more to others once we know what it is.

My favorite part of the whole Tacofractor thing is keeping track of how long Topps is going to keep the page up under the wrong URL. We're up to almost two weeks now.

They are still new and fresh in peoples minds. Look at the Golden Mirror cards when Series 1 came out compared to now. With the exception of the top 2 or 3 stars ( Ohtani, Acuna, etc...) or a top RC they are only bringing $20-$30 if that where they were all hitting $100 + even for common no name players.

That said I can totally see them running with the idea for the next few years and doing a new design every year like Hamburgers, Pizza, Hotdogs, Soda and so forth.

Nothing screams super cool and nostalgic in the future like random tacos on a topps chrome card. Today's price tag is clouding some peoples ability to think.

Seems like wax prices are starting to trend down, at least at the wholesale level.
