Anyone print directly onto envelopes for shipping PWE on eBay?

Hello,

I want to start selling low value cards PWE on eBay with free shipping but not unless I can print directly on the envelope without fumbling around cutting labels and taping. Also, the printer must work well with a phone.

If so, please let me know what printer you use and what size envelope. Any other tips would be appreciated.

I’ve just started listing a lot of my old and low value cards that fit the eBay standard envelope category. I don’t know that you can count on always getting great ink printing directly on an envelope with most normal printers. Will have times where you get streaks, smears, faded print and have to do them over.

I just got a thermal label printer with 4x6 labels and really think that’s the way to go. Maybe someone will have a great story about a printer that is really good for direct-to-envelope printing, but I think thermal labels are probably the most used and give you the most consistent results and require pretty low effort.

1) Print standard envelope label on printing paper
2) Cut out the standard envelope label
3) Tape onto envelope
4) Ship out

By the way, I always pay for a 2 oz label and tape a chrome card to each side of the top loader (or card saver) for extra protection (reduces [doesn't eliminate] the risk of a card being bent during transit).

Agree. Thermal printer on eBay ~$60 and about 10-12$ for 500 self stick 4x6 labels. Super simple. I can have a card shipped up in under a minute.

I tried to print on envelopes and gave up. I just print on the half sheet adhesives and cut them out. I used to only do about 20 per week and couldn't justify spending the extra money on a thermal printer for low volume.

I'm really thinking about going the 4x6 label thermal printer route and printing the labels that way and just peel and stick no cutting, taping or wasted half sheets of paper.

Trying to hold off until the holidays to see if any decent sales pop up. At $150-$200 for a decent one the cost is what has held me back so far.

Search MUNBYN Thermal Shipping Label Printer on eBay. It's gone up $5 since I bought mine last year but it's worked perfectly for me. No need to spend $200

I've made a lot of dumb decisions related to selling online but buying a thermal printer was my best decision. I finally got one three years ago and almost immediately regretted not getting one years sooner. Minimal upkeep cost, prints fast, slap on the label and go. I'd definitely recommend that over trying to print on the envelope.

Thermal printer all the way. My brother recommended it to me for years and I put it off and he was sooo right. Get one if you plan on selling eBay for years to come. The time savings are incredible and setup was easy

I use Armalope envelopes for ebay standard envelope sales. Card in penny sleeve, then top loader then team bag. Never had one returned by the post office and buyers seem to love the package.

Cost is about 50 cents per when ordered in bulk

4x6 is standard size. Prices have gone up considerably since COVID, but you should be able to find one under $90.

The only prerequisite I'd recommend is getting at least 300dpi. 230dpi produces barely legible text.

Not sure about the printer question, but if you buy stacked rather than rolled, the stack can sit on the desk/shelf/whatever and no additional holder or tray is required.

I use a Rollo thermal printer, #6 envelopes, and use a 4x6 label to seal the envelope. I like to print an invoice sheet, tri-fold card into paper, fold over each end of the paper, and the top loader (in team set bag) doesnt really need to be taped in place.

Some people just tape the top loader to the inside of the envelope. With no paper, just the card.

I prefer the short envelopes because the label is the right size to cover the flap and close the envelope. No need for the extra length of a #10, unless you need to send 3-4 cards.
