Default Second half hobby love

Which player do you think is going to see the biggest boost in hobby love for where they are now at this moment?

I’m eyeing Matt Olson and Kyle Tucker if either of them plays a big part in their team’s playoff run.

If Ohtani gets traded to the Dodgers, Yankees, or whoever then there will be a new fan base looking to pick up his cards. Seems like players being traded to new teams are safe bets for an uptick.

Now thru the end of the season is when you need to walk with your eyes wide open (if investing). Influencers will promise playoff bumps, awards, etc. People will be looking to capitalize on selling you the cards, they already own. Ohtani and Acuna have the awards already baked into todays prices. In reality its usually not the obvious choices or predictions that actually play well in the postseason and then have prices bump. Now's the time to watch and participate less. Get ready for the early offseason dips.

Yeah, my buying usually declines around this time, and kicks into high-gear in November.

Same, but force my to hold off a bit right around now. I’ll still add when it’s the right card at the right price. I just know whatever card I’m jonesing for now, will most likely be cheaper in Nov-Dec.

Colton Cowser and more Gunnar Henderson for the Orioles second half run.

And my wildcard is Oswald Peraza breaking through when he is called up next to form the tandem with Volpe. Get that Yankees bump.

Olson already pretty up there. i think Michael Harris has good upside to take off as well as Julio if last year is any indication. There is also talk about the Yankees calling up Austin Wells and if he can do half of what he's doing in the minors and lead them to a 2nd Wildcard Spot could be a nice return as well.

Julio prices have really cratered recently. To the point that I’m finally able to buy some!

I like your list. I might add Corey Seager, Betts/Freeman, and Jose Ramirez.

Part of just can’t help but feel like the hobby is never going to fully jump in on Freeman and Ramirez. We’ll see.

As someone with Betts/Freeman, and Jose Ramirez I can tell you they never get hobby love no matter how great they are year in and year out. I am kinda joking but not really

Freeman has already led his team to a WS win, and it didn’t have a major boost to his hobby love. They don’t give his cards away for free, but you rarely see people on here excited to show off their new Freddie pickup.

It’s time for a Corey Seager run.

In terms of “hobby love,” I think you’re looking at 3 potential reasons why card values/demand could jump up significantly in the second half:

-Potential record breakers or milestones- Ohtani and Arraez? I don’t expect either of them to get there, but I guess it’s possible

-MVP campaigns- Ohtani, Acuna are probably the favorites at this point and would get the most hobby love. Maybe Betts or Freeman, if Acuna slows down.

-Rookie of the Year or big call-ups- not sure we’ll see any other huge call ups at this point. I expect Carroll vs. Elly will be the big (and most likely) story line, if they keep up their current pace. Could see Francisco Alvarez as a dark-horse (maybe not ROY, but if he keeps hitting homers at such a big rate as a rookie catcher). I could also see interest rising for Jung, Yoshida or Gunnar if one of them starts making a convincing case for AL ROY…

All good points, but I feel like Ohtani and Acuna already have this year’s MVP Awards baked into their prices. Along with Carroll for NL ROY. Whereas someone like Bichette is fully capable of having a monster second half and really seeing a big jump for where he is now.

Josh Jung easy. Great chance at ROY and a big part of the Rangers getting back to the playoffs?

Otherwise I can't see too many other names popping off. Acuña Jr and Ohtani etc. are already near locks for MVPs, maybe Acuña Jr if he gets to 40/40.
